Chromebook Technology Readiness Needs Assessment

As a technology facilitator for my building, I am constantly being asked to provide professional

development at staff meetings geared towards technology. While this might seem like an easy
task, when taking into consideration the vast amount of different devices each building has, the
enormous amounts of Web 2.0 tools that are out there, and online testing requirements, the
possibilities are endless.
When developing a needs assessment for this project, it was my goal to design a questionnaire
that could be accurately given to my staff, and the data be successfully used to design
professional development sessions worthy of South Lyon Community Schools needs. We have
recently acquired Google Apps for Education throughout our entire district, creating an
opportunity to unite this project with the needs of our building/district.
While the questionnaire is long (120 questions), the goal of the questionnaire is to flesh out not
only the weaknesses of the staff, but also the strengths. The professional development sessions
can be geared towards the weaker areas, building up the staff as a united whole. However, the
strengths of staff members can be focused on, and used to guide and lead professional
development. Peer collaboration, observations, and training can be a successful professional
development tool. The strengths of the staff, specifically their areas of expertise, can be
beneficial in determining the presenters for PD sessions.
This questionnaire is designed to be given online, through Google Forms, or through a paperpencil version. With the length of the questionnaire, the current form of administration is paperpencil, as staff requests longer opportunities to submit their answers then the school day
currently allows them to sit in-front of a computer. Staff would have 2 weeks to complete and
submit their questionnaire results.
Once the needs assessment has been administered, the data will be compiled to showcase the
weaker areas, along with determining the strengths of the staff. Specific staff who have provided
feedback to areas of expertise will be considered as teacher leaders to help guide the professional
development process.

South Lyon Community Schools Google Apps for Education Needs Assessment
Survey Description: With the recent acquisition of Googles Apps for Education, South Lyon
Community Schools is looking to invest time and resources to supporting staff through
professional development sessions. This questionnaire is designed to assess your abilities,
interests, strengths and weaknesses with Googles Apps for Education. Survey results will be
used to develop appropriate PD sessions throughout the school year, in conjunction with the
contractual staff PD session calendar.
This questionnaire will take a few precious minutes of your time, but your responses are valuable
and appreciated. Usually it is best to respond with your first impression, without giving the
question much thought, as this will provide a more accurate reflection of your abilities and

development sessions only. Thank you for your cooperation!
