Residents had to walk over two miles to reach the nearest bus stop to utilize public transportation.
Without sufficient bus services, the adult residents struggled to get to work while their children were unable
to travel to and return home from after school programs.
OCJU organizers, Rogers Road residents, Rogers-Eubanks Neighborhood Association (RENA) volunteers,
Habitat for Humanity volunteers, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students and members of the
Episcopal Church of the Advocate came together to ensure the success of the campaign.
OCJU organized canvassing opportunities and community meetings during which residents were able to
identify priorities and solutions concerning public transportation services.
OCJU supporters created a new public transportation proposal to increase the frequency and hours of
Chapel Hill Transits HS Bus Route to better serve the community at a minimal cost to the town.
Beginning in January, the bus route hours were increased with one morning hour and one afternoon hour.
