A GOOD FOUNDATION AGAINST THE TIME TO COME

(1 Timothy 6:19)

INTRODUCTION:
Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom
he is like:
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and
when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was
founded upon a rock.
But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house
upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of
that house was great.
This story is found in Luke 6:47-49. It emphasizes that success and failure depends on the
foundation of a persons life. We need a good foundation for our future; in other words, Our
Foundation, Our Future. According to the Lord Jesus Christ, hearing and doing the Word of God is the
way to build our lives in a good foundation.
Our text is found in 1 Timothy 6:19, and the Bible says:
Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may
lay hold on eternal life.
Here, we are told to lay up in store for ourselves A GOOD FOUNDATION AGAINST THE TIME TO
COME. How do we build our lives in A Good Foundation Against the Time to Come?
I. First of all, we need to have a SURE FOUNDATION.
A house with a weak foundation will be destroyed by a flood. On the other hand, the house
built on the rock will remain unshaken.
The foundation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy is only 10 feet deep. Not only that,

pisa means marshy land. A tower built on marshy land is surely bound to fall.
In Ephesians 2:20, Paul says that believers are like a house []built upon the foundation of
the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;.

A corner stone is a large and firm stone that supports the building.
The Lord Jesus Christ is said to be a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure
foundation (Isa. 28:16), and every one who believes in Him shall not be ashamed (Rom.
10:10). Let us build our lives on a sure foundation the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. Secondly, we need to have a SINGLE FOUNDATION.

1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
The four corners of the building have only one foundation the chief corner stone. So with us:
we cannot build our lives on other foundations, but on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us not doubt Him, for a double-minded man is unstable in all His ways (Jas. 1:8).
Let us believe Him, for whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting
life (Jn. 3:16).
3. Thirdly, there is a need to have a SEALED FOUNDATION.
Water can penetrate and weaken the foundation of a building. The foundation must be
sealed, closed, stuck down, and impenetrable.
In 2 Timothy 2:19, the Apostle Paul says, Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure,
having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of
Christ depart from iniquity.
Sin weakens our lives. Let us keep ourselves sealed from sin. Let every one of us, who call
ourselves Christians, depart from iniquity!
4. Lastly, lets be sure that we have a SUFFICIENT FOUNDATION
Jesus said in Luke 14:28-29,
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost,
whether he have sufficient to finish it?
Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin
to mock him,
Student Convention guidelines say, If we fail to plan, we plan to fail.
Peer pressure, drugs, teenage pregnancy, and suicide are just a few of the storms that beat us;
but in the School of Tomorrow, our foundation is sufficient for it is built on Christ and His Word.
Sufficient foundation has been laid, [] But let every man take heed how he buildeth
thereupon (1 Cor. 3:10). To graduate from A.C.E. School of Tomorrow, and forget all the character
traits weve learned is like building a tower and not finishing it.
Let us build on that Sufficient Foundation, works of gold, silver, and precious stones.
CONCLUSION:
A Sure Foundation, a Single Foundation, a Sealed Foundation, and a Sufficient Foundation is
A Good Foundation Against the Time to Come. Jesus said, Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my
words shall not pass away (Matt. 24:35).
The Lord Jesus Christ of the Holy Bible is our FOUNDATION, our FUTURE!
