BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

What students should know when finished with the lesson:
-The ability to research 5 TN leaders who made an impact on the state.
-The ability to create comic strips, by picking 1 leader out of the 5 researched.
-The ability to create a Prezi with the information collected from research and showing comic
strips.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600
This lesson is within a unit plan, designed for each student to complete the research of the
assigned leaders in Tennessee history.
I plan to build on this lesson further by introducing more TN leaders for each student to make
comic strips for 2 more leaders.

I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did master the objectives and
for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not
part of this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

Introduction:
As we know, Tennessee has a lot of great history, but history cannot be made without a person making an
impact on our state, right? So, today you will be researching the 10 TN leaders I will assign, which have
made an impact on Tennessee in the past. I will split you up into groups of 2. This means you will research 5
leaders and your partner will research 5 leaders, okay? I want you guys to enjoy your research, so you will
create a comic strip. You will pick 1 out of the 5 leaders that youre researching. Before you create your
Prezi presentation we discussed in the class before, I want you to write down 1 important fact you
discovered while researching your leaders. This can be pretty much anything you find interesting! I will give
everyone a handout so you can write 1 interesting fact about each TN leader and 1 fact about how he/she
impacted TN. Of course, I will go over how to create a Prezi and a comic strip from ToonDoo to refresh
your memory! Once you have completed your research and are finished writing down the impacting fact and
your interesting fact, please put your facts and comic strip on your Prezi presentation, so we can show the
class what you have learned about these important leaders that impacted Tennessee.
Procedures:
Prior to computers (20 minutes)
Teacher procedures
1. After the introduction, remind students how to create a comic strip on http://www.toondoo.com, and answer
any questions about creating the comic strips.
2. After giving instructions of the comic strips, remind students how to create a Prezi on
https://prezi.com/dashboard/, and answer any questions about creating a Prezi.
3. Ask if there are any questions.
4. Pass out handouts.
Student procedures
1. Ask questions, if any.
At the computers: (1 hr. 30 min)
Teacher procedures
1. Pass out computers to each student (if there are not enough computers, partners will share)
2. Write the website URL on the board. The URL will contain the research for the students.
3. Give any further instruction for students who need it.
Student procedures
1. Students will use the URL provided to research TN leaders.
2. Students will write an interesting fact and how he/she impacted TN on their handout.
3. Students will choose 1 leader and create a comic strip.
4. Students will create a Prezi with their partner, which includes: an interesting fact and the comic strip of the leader
5. Students will present to the class.

Closure:
Now that we have learned about 10 leaders today, do you think if I ran into you at the grocery store and said, Hi,
Anna! I totally forgot who Sam Davis is Can you help me remember? Will you be able to tell me?
You all did great today, and you worked very hard on this technology lesson. Did you have fun?

Now, I want everyone to close their eyes and put your head down. Give me a thumb up if you understand who our
very important leaders are? Give me a thumb up if you understand how to create your very own comic strip?
Lastly, give me a thumb up if you understand how to create a Prezi?
