Option 1: Crows and Cranes

Divide the boys into two teams. Line them up facing each other about a yard apart.
Name one team the Crows and the other the Cranes. Mark off a baseline about thirty
to fifty feet behind each team. Also mark the center of the area and use an object to
establish bases. When the leader calls Crows, the Crows must get to their base without
being tagged by the Cranes. When the leader calls Cranes, the Cranes must get to their
base without being tagged by the Crows. The leader can add suspense by prolonging
the commands: Crrrrrows, Crrrrranes, or crrrrrash (no one runs or tags).
Option 2: Get There First
Divide the players into teams of three to four players and form parallel lines in a row.
Call for specific items to be placed at a designated spot. For example, when you call
for a black shoe, the team that can place the black shoe in the designated spot first gets
a point. Be sure to select items that the boys will have in their possession.

Tyler and Andy were two ambitious seventh-graders. Andy knew the Lord as his personal Savior, but Tyler did not. Andy wanted his friend to know Jesus.
But before long, Tyler convinced Andy to do little things that seemed innocent at first.
This led to bigger things like shoplifting CDs and video games. It got to the point that
every time they went into a store, they stole something.

TIPS FOR LEADERS

The first major need
of a boy is love. He
needs to know he is
loved when he makes
good choices and
when he makes bad
choices. The best
way to spell love is
T-I-M-E. Quantity and
quality of time are
both important.

Year 1, Quarter 1, Week 5

Andys parents suspected something was wrong. But they felt that since he had professed Christ, he wouldnt get into trouble.
Soon Andy became so involved that he was hooked and could see no way out of his
shoplifting habit. Fear gripped his heart and he struggled through many sleepless nights.
How could he get out of this mess?
But the Lord was speaking to Andy, and he knew what he had to do. He got on his
knees and confessed to the Lord all he had done. Then, he told his parents. They all prayed
together, and talked about what needed to be done.
The Lord directed them to go to the police. Andy had to appear before a judge, who
asked why he had done all these things. Andy replied he had only tagged along with his pal
Tyler so he could lead Tyler to Christ. But it had backfired.
The judge ordered Andy to make restitution and placed him on one year of probation.
The final words of the judge to Andy were: Never lower your standards for anyone. It
just doesnt pay!
Andy learned a valuable lesson the hard way. He should have been the strong one to
prevent his buddy from stealing, but he chose to be weak. Boys your age may look at those
who are small and consider them weak. Thats because theyre only concerned about the
physical. But God, your parents, and the church will always think youre strong when you
resist temptation.
Now is a good time to make a commitment to follow Christ and to be the strong example He wants you to be to others. Be a good example to your friends and also to those
who want you to lower your standards.

C L O S I N G C E R E M O N Y Leader:________________

15 min.

Say, If you want to stand strong for Jesus, I want you to stand up now. Lets make a
group handshake. This handshake will signify to each other that we will be strong! We
will resist temptation! We will be an example to others! Close in prayer.

TIPS FOR LEADERS

Teaching with practical application is the
method most often
used in Royal Rangers because of its
effectiveness. The
steps are (1) the leader
tells and does; (2) the
leader does while the
boy tells; (3) the boy
does and tells while
the leader guides;
and (4) the boy does
independently.
TIPS FOR LEADERS
Reward boys who are
behaving correctly.
Single them out during
Bible Study or Recreation. Recognize them
in front of the other
boys.
TIPS FOR LEADERS
Always be ready to
take time to pray
for special needs as
requested by your
boys. Be sensitive
to the leading of the
Holy Spirit as you pray
and talk with the boys
about their needs
and how God can
meet them.

TIPS FOR LEADERS

Remember to show
appreciation to
everyone involved in
making the meeting
a success.
