General Guidelines for Sleeve Inspections

GUIA GENERAL PARA LA INSPECCION DE CAMISAS (GUIAS LEBUS)
Note: Contact Lebus if any of the following conditions are found. Please talk with LeBus
before attempting any repair work!

Drum Grooves (Guias ranuradas)

1. Visually check to see if there are cracks anywhere on the sleeve.
Visualmente verificar la existencia de fisuras en cualquier punto de la camisa
2. Check to see if the sleeve is down tight on the drum. One way to check is to use a
hammer and strike the sleeve to see if it sounds solid or if there is a ringing effect
indicating and air gap.
Chequear si la guia esta ajustada al tambor. Una manera de hacerlo es usando un
martillo, y golpear la camisa para ver si el sonido es solido o si hay un efecto de
timbre indicativo de un vacio de aire.
3. Check the lands to see if they have a sharp land or if it is flat. A sharp land will bend
over easily and is an indication of a groove radius that may be too large. This may be an
indication that a replacement sleeve is necessary.

doblara facilmente y es una indicacion que el radio del ranurado es demasiado
grande. Esto podria ser una indicacion que es necesario el reemplazo de la camisa.
4. Lay a straight edge over the lands using the dead wrap area as a reference and see if
there is a dip in the groove area. You can check the groove depth from this same
straight edge, using the dead wrap area as the point of reference. If the grooves are
approximately 10% of the cable size deeper than the reference area, then the grooves are
considered worn.
Extienda un filo recto sobre los relieves, usando el area circunsferencial muerta
como referencia y vea si hay una zanja en el area ranurada. Puede chechear la
profundidad del ranurado desde este mismo filo recto, usando la zona muerta
como referencia. Si los ranurados estan aproximadamente 10% del diametro del
cable mas profundo que los del area de referencia, entonces las camisas ranuradas
deben considerarse desgastadas.

Flanges or Wear Plates

1. Visually check the wear plates for signs of cracks or extreme worn areas.

2. Measure the drum width at several places around the drum. Each measurement should be
the same.

ser la misma.
3. Using a straight edge, see if there are any areas that are recessed, this would indicate
excessive wear. This area should not be any deeper than 10% of the cable size.
Usando un filo recto, vea si hay una o mas areas que esten hundidas, esto podria
indicar desgaste excesivo. Este area no deberia ser mas profunda que el 10% del
diametro del cable.

Kickers
Plaquetas
When the kickers are worn down to half the original thickness, then it is time to replace them.

These guidelines are only generalities, there are numerous conditions that can affect grooving
including the size, type, construction and wear of the cable itself.
