local filmmaker Paddy Slattery last Friday. Paddy, a former student of the school, was delighted to be invited back to his alma mater by third year CSPE students, to give a motivational talk which ranged from anecdotes about his life experiences, to issues such as self-esteem, mindfulness and mental health. The date of his visit to the school was a poignant one the 20year anniversary of the car accident, in which he sustained a spinal cord injury at the age of seventeen. Paddy has an incredibly upbeat attitude and an infectious positivity which captivated students throughout the talk. He has defied medical odds to pursue an award-winning career in filmmaking, and is embarking on his first feature film, The Broken Law of Attraction. He was presented with a donation to his funding campaign by the students after the talk. Paddy was overwhelmed by the welcome, goodwill and generosity of Oaklands students, and enjoyed a trip down memory lane when pupils who took him on a tour
of the school. He described the visit as one of the most
memorable moments of his life, and promised students invites to the premiere on the release of his film!
