The human being develops
himself in stable networks to
fulfill his social needs.
Through history we have
been pursuing the ultimate
communication tool in order to
connect with others. From letters
to newspapers, then magazines
and now the omnipresent
internet. This contemporary
medium gave us a voice,
a platform to express ourselves
and the chance to be
heard somewhere. But then
we create an illusion of social
belonging and we find ourselves
alone behind the screen.

Together with Alvin Arthur,

I created a course at the
Design Academy Eindhoven: Open LAB.
A course that allows 3rd year Bachelor students to
empower their own educational framework.

needed a stage to be heard.
Discovering the possibilities when a group of students
takes control of its own educational future!

<<OpenLAB is a course created by

students within the Design Academy
Eindhoven. The course is about exploring
a new educational framework based on
collaborative peer-to-peer exchange.
We develop self-initiated projects, but
also teach our skills and think along with
everyones process. We put a strong
emphasis on mentoring each other
by making use of the conceptual and
practical competences already present in
the community.
We see working on a self initiated project
as essential. Everybody will bring its own
project to the group, sharing its process,
goals and questions; confronting points
of view and reflections will help one to
define its own creative process, deepen
ones identity and deal with the struggles
that often come along with working within
a personal frame.

The richness of a group made of

individuals coming with their own
backgrounds, skills and expectations is
defining the strength of OpenLab.
We want its members to develop their
own practice and confidence by using this
diversity, getting inspired by each other
and defining themselves by contrast.
As a group we select and invite mentors
& lecturers to share their professional
expertise and guidance. It makes each
new semester really different from the
previous one, also because we strive for
partnerships and collaborations with
school, companies and studios.
We operate as a student group developing
new ways to challenge education,

Performance
Interference is an audio visual performance where the coherency and contrast
of exchanging data plays a crucial role. From a very static dialogue to a point
where the data meets and brakes the duality of interference will be exposed.
Experience a full immersed environment with spatialised sounds,
audio-reactive lightbulbs and projections.

ABSORBING INTERMEDIA

Multiple performances and installations that display

properties of intermedia and hosting different forms
of aesthetics. Most of the work consists of a variety
of multimedia-appearances, the intention is to let
the individual absorb different ways of perception.

ABSORBING INTERMEDIA_

This program lasted for about three

hours, and featured different artists
picked by Vito Willems and me.
Each artist performed their own
media-transcending show! During this
event I displayed together with Vito
our latest project: _Interference_
