Preface
Currently I am completing my Bachelors Degree in Marketing at North South University
in Bangladesh. I am in my final year of BBA program and therefore I have to conduct a
three months of internship. The reason I choose to do my internship in a product based
company because I wanted to be benefited from this field which is my working desire place
of future. I also wanted to relate my book knowledge with the practical field. Another
reason to choose product based company for my internship was that in Bangladesh
everyday a lot opportunities are building in this section in terms of exporting. I wanted to
learn and experience the marketing and sailing knowledge. Though Karmo performs
traditional systems but after working as an intern in Karmo I got to learn that it is a place
where challenge also take place to deal with everyday problems.
At first though I feel nervous to seeing the environment of a busy place like sales
department but then I slowly realized how helpful this was for me to gather the real world
experience with the help of all the personnel working there.
In this report I will describe my experiences during the internship period. I submitted my
weekly journal duly to my honorable faculty but this contains the overall overview of my
internship company, the activities I did, the experiences and knowledge I gather during this
three months of internship. I also included the recommendations for the company after
observing it thoroughly.

Executive Summary
Karmo Group of industries is one of the first pioneer production based company of Bangladesh.
Their products are known to all and popular at a same time. In experience wise this company
witnessed all kind of success and saw losses too. For internship experience I really needed a
organization where I can analyze both success and failure of a company. This company is planning
to export its product to abroad. That is a new challenge to this company.
This internship report has been prepared to fulfill the requirement of Bachelors Degree. As to the
requirements I had to be a part of a company and learn the things practically to gather knowledge.
I choose Karmo Group of Industries for my internship and this report covers the overall learning
as an intern in there.
All the discussions are presented duly of my three months internship program. I tried to include
all the information, activities and learning I gather by working in there. I hope that my report will
reflect an obvious picture of the whole work. Readers are welcomed to criticize my work for the
betterment of the project.

1. Organizational Overview__________________________________________________
1.1) About Karmo Group of Industries
Established in 1965, Karmo is the first foam company to operate in Bangladesh. Now Karmo
diversified and expanded in to other industries, giving a complete solution to all the bedding
and furnishing needs all over Bangladesh. Through Total Quality Management, superior quality
goods Karmo Groups of Industries now holds the title of largest and leading manufacturer of
PU foam, Mattress, Adhesive, Cushion and Furniture, in terms of market share and popularity,
in Bangladesh. By dominating almost 46% of the market share of PU foam and similar market
share in the mattress, adhesive, furniture and cushion industries Karmo Groups growth mirrors
the net demand growth in these industries. Karmo offers a complete line of flexible foams for
furniture seating, transportation seating, bedding, carpet underlay, and packaging.

1.2) Offered Products


Karmo Group of Industries is the first company in Bangladesh to have started the production of
Polyurethane products. Their versatile flexible and rigid Custom Formulated Products can be
found in the adhesive, taxidermy and custom-molding industries as well as in many other
applications. They develop both formulations and applications expertise for each customer's
unique requirements. Right now their product can be divided into four Category with subcategory. They are:

2. Internship experience & learnings___________________________


Internship is very important for a student to realize about his ability and its also gives a clear
picture of real picture of working process. A student not only can learn the practical practices of
the working process but also thats clarify the real difference between theories learned during
graduation period and how and why we use those theories or concepts in real working
atmosphere. During my internship period which almost three months in time duration in Karmo
Group of Industries, I was also realized all this things and have a clear view about the reality of
job world and I learned how to apply which ability in particular situation as well. During this
time period of my internship I really learned a lot and I can classified my learning into three
categories. Lets described those categories broadly.

2.1) Analytical Skills


Analytical skill is the ability to visualize, articulate and solve both complex and uncomplicated
problems and concepts and make decisions that are sensible and based on available
information. Such skills include demonstration of the ability to apply logical thinking to
gathering and analyzing information, designing and testing solutions to problems and
formulating plans. During my intern period in Karmo Group of Industries I had to cope up with
the working atmosphere there which helped me to get acquainted to corporate culture. I now
understand how to make better decisions and deal with the problems faced in real job scenario
and especially in marketing and sells field.

2.2) People Skills


People skill involves understanding ourselves and moderating our responses. It is the ability to
talk effectively and accurately so that relationships of trust, respect is built among the speakers
with the help of productive interactions. Working as an intern in the sells department give me
lots of situations to deal with real buyers and in that situations I had to think like my customer
and I had to choose words based on suitable to use in a particular situation and in particular
personality based person. Not only was this, the great challenge was to cope up with the
people in the organization as a first intern in there. I really had to create a weight of myself and
give them a clear idea about my identity or existence into that organization and as a result they
accept me as one of their own. That was really helpful to complete all the task I was given
because when I become one of their own they all were helping me understand my queries or

Confusions. So I can say working in Karmo I really can discover my positive skill of interact with
people beneath me.

2.3) Technical skills


Technical skills are mainly deals with technological instruments in work process but it can be
also defined as a technical skill when a specific technique is been used to complete a task as
well. In Karmo Group of Industries I had an opportunity to design the printing advertisement as
well as the bill board design and during this particular task I had to teach adobe illustrator
which mainly used for designing by professionals in advertising firms, so its become an asset
for my experience as well. I also learned a specific technique in which I deal with different
dealers of Karmo Group while tale-marketing, its also increase my knowledge in sales
marketing process. Beside all this things I had to work regular in browsing internet, type in MSWord or make poster so this things are also counted as my technical skills. So it can be said I
learned or used some professional software which used regular basis in every marketing firm so
this technical skills cover my majors requirement.

2.4) Personal Development


Personal development is a realization a person can feel from inside about some positive-ness or
progress from previous time about some skill or knowledge or it could be about self-confident
as well. My intern experience in Karmo also helped me to earn some personal development.
Lets point out all the development I feel from inside:
a) Self Confidence: The biggest development I can feel is self-confidence. This quality is
very important in near future for facing any interview or work in an organization with
lots of pressure. During my intern experience I realized that I am so much capable to do
complicated job compare to other experienced employees and thats because I can take
advantage from the technology and my educational background also helped me to
create a first impression among people and thing is also very helpful.
b) Get rid of stage fright: Although I worked as an actor in theatre drama and did lots of
presentation during my BBA but this things are preplanned things and in an organization
we had to face real people in a real and unpredictable situations which create a stage
fright. During my intern experience I had to deal with lots of people and had to convince
customer from different level as well, and all this things helped me to get used to all this
new things and eventually I get rid of my stage fright.
c) Creativity: Creativity is a quality which cant be tech rather it has to come naturally but
although its completely natural, its need experience or informations to process in
brain and come up with something creativity which will be suitable for a specific
situation. And all for this there need to be some pressure, some time limit and some
passion. In Karmo, they encouraged me and same time give me a positive pressure to
complete several task with creativity and I was passed with all those task and the reason
behind is the atmosphere was friendly to be creative thinker. Its also a big development
of mine.
d) Culture: Although different organizations follow or have different culture in working
atmosphere but most of the time in Bangladesh its very natural to have a formal culture
in an office and I learned that culture during my intern experience and I hope I can

handle any other organizations culture as well. I see it another personal development of
mine.

3. Contribution to the Organization__________________________________________


An organization allows interns in a hope that they will learn about real working process and in
return they will contribute to that organization with their fresh ideas and neutral observation. I
was the first intern of Karmo Group of Industries, so it was my responsibility to create a positive
image so that they become interested to have interns to their organizations in future. My intern
experience duration was almost three months and at the end of my intern my supervisor was
very happy with my work and behavior, so its an indication that some contribution had done
by me in this time period.

3.1) Organizing papers and analysis


In the first portion of my intern experience I basically learned about all the process is done in
marketing department of Karmo and my supervisor is an employee over there with a target
sales. It will be very unjust if he loose his target because of teaching me office skills so that was
my responsibility to help him in his work and at the same time try to learn from that real
working experience. In this portion I basically organizing papers or bills and analysis some data
about credit allocation and finding out sales record and progress based on previous sales
history and after pointing out listing those names and provide those names to my supervisor.

3.2) Push sales and sales analysis


In the mid period or second month of my intern experience I involved with tale-marketing
process with the help of my supervisor. So what was my point contribution here is listed below:
a) Building communication stronger: Its a psychological satisfaction when a company
personally communicate with its products distributor, those distributor can really feel
connected with the company because of this action and help in this process.

b) Findings problems: As a part of my training I learned to point out the real problem for
sales declining from the distributors point of view. So I talked to them politely and
asked about the real reason why the sales is not growing that much or why its declining
than previous records.
c) Try to increase the sales: Well the teaching of the training was after finding out the
problems of the distributor instantly solve those problems or give positive motivation to
the distributor and influence to increase the order. I followed all the process and at the
end I was succeed to increase some order from the distributors for more sells, this are
counted as my contribution to the organization.

3.3) Developing and research in re-branding process


In the last month of my internship experience I asked to develop concepts and design the rebranding process for Karmo foam mainly. My logic was the message of the organization about
the product is not reaching to all the people who basically use this kind of products. So there
need a re-branding process by which it will be easier to reach those untouched market and as a
result the image of the product will be gain positive attention and eventually the sells will rise.
Lets describe my research on re-branding Karmo foam.
a) Choose the medium: I suggest that if the television media advertisement is proven too
costly than we could go for magazines which are very popular to women of the house.
We could even go for online marketing to reach the message to educated people.
Mattress is still a product that mainly used by Upper class and Middle upper class so it
needs to be reached the message towards them to increase the sales.
b) Come up with a new tag line or slogan: Karmo really dont have any tag line or slogan
suitable for the brand or product. So I recommend a tag line which will be Happy
Ending. Now the question is why happy ending, As Karmo distributed the products
related to bed mainly foam, bed cover etc. so this things are used for sleeping at night
most of the time, my logic is the tag line will give a massage to its customer that it
doesnt matter how rough your day was when you have a happy ending sleep with
Karmo products. As Karmo distributes its product all over the country I also told to come

up with a Bangla tag line similar to English tag line so that Karmos targeted customer
can really understand the tag line. So I come up with a Bangla tag line as well
, and in this tag line says everything nothing to describe anything.
c) Make planning for annual picnic: During my last week of intern time period Karmo took
a decision of having an annual picnic for all the employee and their family members in
the month of December. So I took the responsibility to research on the topic and make a
nicer plan for having a very successful picnic. When I submitted my research work my
supervisor was very satisfied for having all kind of necessary information available there.
So in that case I believe I contribute something to the organization.
d) Design printing advertisements: To whom I am submitting my re-branding design they
may not understand what I am trying to do in new design, thats why to clear the whole
idea I design two advertisement which can be used in printing media. As a result I get
some positive feedback from my superior officers and directors. Here is the two design I
came up with my recommended tag line.

Whether Kamro Group use my idea or not but they liked my idea about promoting their
products like never before. So at least I give them some idea about re-branding and target to
grab more market share where they never focused before. So this is another contribution done
by me.
e) Designing billboard: During my marketing research I noticed that there are some
billboards of Karmo are available around the country but the design is so old fashioned
and there is not available any message which can attacked people and make them
remember the brand. So I decided to give an idea about what kind of design should
Karmo use to reach their products attractiveness and their message as well to their
targeted people. As in my re-branding designing my recommended target market of
Karmo was upper class, middle upper class and educated class. So keep my targeted
people in mind I design a sample of bill board. Here is that design:

4. Compare and Contrast________________________________________________

Compare and contrast is a concept what basically shows the similarities and differences
between what I learned from my BBA and what I see it in an organization.
In my case I did a sales related course which is Sales marketing during my BBA program in North
South University, and I choose to complete my intern experience in an organization which also
deals with the sales procedure. In similarities what I learned and what I experienced is that this
sector is very difficult to handle and pressure is always there and biggest pressure is fulfilling
the target. I also find similarities that marketing awareness is a big help for increasing sales,
quality of product is important to have sustainable customer relationship. I also find out
contrast about what I learned and what I experienced. First of all preaching hard is not always
helpful for a success of a product but distribution ability in on time is a bigger quality in our
country. No matter how good the image of the product is, if the consumer failed to have it
twice he/she not going to like that product anymore. I also learned that if a product is not

focusing only to city people but also focusing on urban people too there are high chances to
have a sustainable successful product life. In BBA program we learned a lot of theories in book
but in practical world they might be different to use. All the marketing concept are not suitable
for the general people of our country because of their phycology is different than western
people. So this was the main observation of mine about the compare and contrast.

5. Organizational environment and interaction with supervisor and coworkers___________________________________________________________________________


As I mention before that organization wise there can be found different working atmosphere
and particular culture, but the important factor is the culture is helpful or not for a better
working output. I noticed all this aspect and come up with my observation about Karmo Group
of Industries.

5.1) Organizational culture & environment


Karmo group of industries try to maintain a formal yet friendly atmosphere in office. People are
very helpful to each other. Some vide on competition can be found over there among coworkers but its always in a positive way. In my three months of working experience over there I
didnt saw any conflict among anyone about anything. So in my opinion that place is very
positive and helpful to concentrate on ones own duties.

5.2) Interaction with others


Well from the first day of my internship everyone was very welcomed and helpful towards me. I
talked about different subject with most of the employees from marketing, accounting and
human resource department. I wasnt permanent to any department so I was a neutral person
among all, so no one feel any haziness to talk with me. My supervisor is very friendly and
humble person. Whatever I asked him first of all he got nervous on how can he answer me
properly and then he try to explain me with every details so that I dont have any doubt. Every

organization have some documents which they never share with any outsider but employee
over there never hide any document from me. So there was a strong trust issue or they would
never do this. That thing also help me to realize one of themselves. The most important thing
was whatever I want to do voluntarily, they never stopped me even encourage me to do so. It
can be said that my interaction with co-workers and supervisor was very helpful for my
internship experience.

5.3) Type, quality and quantity of works


I was a nonpaid internship worker over there, so no one has any liability on my work progress
or my contribution to the organization. In first month I did very simple yet time consuming job.
In my second month when my supervisor understand and believe about my abilities he give me
some serious job with his assistance I passed and in the last month most of the works I took
some research work voluntarily which are connected with developing plan or designing plan. So
there wasnt much pressure on me during my internship experience.

6. Learning and Observation_____________________________________________


Internship experience at Karmo Group of Industries really give me a big opportunity to
learn a lot from personal experience, and I observed a lot of unknown fact about some business
tactics which wasnt possible to known in academic life. Lets point out all the learnings and
observation.
a) Sales is a challenging job: What I observed in three months that summarize that
sales is a difficult job than reading. During my sales marketing course (Mkt 445)
there was some steps to increase the sells but in reality this is not the same, even
more difficult and challenging.
b) Word of mouth is an asset for image in business: When its about distribution
products than word of mouth is very important because a distributor schedule his
plan of selling according that commitment.

c) Quality is key point of marketing in rural area: In Bangladesh, rural people are more
attracted to product for its better quality or longevity not for its attractive
advertisements or poster.
d) Knowledge outside text books is a strong quality to grow: In job market one may
hired for his/her brilliant result in a specific subject for which he/she is been hired
but the success is really depend on business related job is how much one knows
about the outside world and different subjects.
e) Understanding consumer psychology is make a sales person right in a track: A sales
persons main job is to attracted its customer or influence to buy some products and
for that understanding his customers mentality related to his expectation and need
is very important.
f) Networking is power: I observed in marketing field job sector, people who have
bonding with many people are more successful. In another way it can be said that in
marketing field extroverts are more successful then introvert.
g) Doing on time job is a good impression: If someone is assigned for a particular job
than complete that on time is a very good impression to his/her superior. But if the
task is done too quick than it might come up negatively because than the superior
cant trust about the quality of the work.
h) Dressing sense is necessary: Proper dressing sense is very important to create a good
image among others, and its very much important when the employee is on sales
department.

7. Expectation vs. Experience______________________________________


Honestly my expectation was negative about the experience of internship procedure because
of hearing some horrified stories of other intern students from previous years. But in reality my
experience was good as an intern. I blended up there and work with my own concern there. So I
would say my experience is better than my expectation.

8. Influence of internship on career plan________________________


After my internship experience its really effects on every decisions about my career.

8.1) Selection of sector to pursue career


After watching sales department so closely I understand its a very pressurize word department
without proper recognition in any organization. I also work in marketing research and in rebranding process which I really about, so I took decision about choosing my career as a
marketier but not in the sales related job.

8.2) Motivation factor


The internship experience really motivate me in many aspects. Its really give me confidence
about my ability of work. Now I know that I a quick adopter in real corporate atmosphere which
is really good.

9. Redoing the internship_________________________________________________


Well it doesnt matter how much we tried we cant do everything we wish for. It also happened
for internship experience. So what should I do if I ever get chance to do intern again, lets
describe that.

9.1) Doing intern in same organization


If I get chance to do intern again with Karmo than I would go for some field trip in different
distribution center of Karmo Foam and try to observe closely and try to make a plan for
development in the service and product and most importantly I would convince the chairman
about the re-branding process and design more advertisements and planned for television
advertisements.

If I ever get chance to choose an organization on my own for internship than I would like to
choose any top positioned advertisement firm, where I can really make presentation about
marketing strategy and convince clients for any contact and make advertisements.

10. Conclusion_____________________________________________________________
Internship experience is something that bring all the knowledge of a particular subject to
practical use and give a lifetime experience about organizations work process. If I really apply
my experience which I really learned from my internship experience from Karmo Group of
Industries than I think it will be a big plus point for my career and that is the main purpose of
internship. I really appreciate all the pressure and difficulties during my internship time period
but it all was necessary for a better future in corporate world, where surviving is to them who
are fittest to the environment.
