UCLA Medical Center
4 MICU Administrative Staff, Sherry Xu Unit Director
757 Westwood Plaza
Los Angeles, CA 90095
Dear 4 Medical Intensive Care Unit Administrative Staff,
My name is Lauren Powell and I am writing to express my interest in obtaining a position in UCLA
Healths New Graduate Nurse Residency Program in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). This
letter is also in correspondence to my interview invitation from Amanda Lozano, the UCLA Health
Sciences Lead Coordinator. I will be a new graduate from the University of Arizona College of
Nursing and this position would be a great opportunity to further enhance my skills. I am a highly
motivated person that strives for excellence as represented in my core values. My strong clinical
background, outstanding organizational skills, and commitment will enable me to make a valuable
contribution to your team.
My passion for the MICU started in my preceptorship at Banner University Medical Center in
Tucson, Arizona (August 29th-October 1st). In this role, I have collaborated with the healthcare team
to ensure best practices and improve patient outcomes. I assumed responsibility for patient care
decisions and actions and strived for the safety and quality in the delivery of care. Additionally, I
have practiced leadership and strategic decision making skills and utilized time management and
teamwork in the healthcare setting. My proficient education and experience has given me insight of
ensuring high standards of care for a wide variety of patients.
During my clinical experiences, I have witnessed the benefits of exceptional communication skills
within the interdisciplinary care team. In instances where a patients wellbeing was in jeopardy,
effective communication was instrumental in providing support needed to transform a challenging
patient situation into a more manageable one. For example, by collaborating with the team, I have
helped implement new strategies and patient safety initiatives to create better patient outcomes. Also
as an expected BSN graduate from the University of Arizona, I hope to use my knowledge to further
improve the health care experience.
With UCLA Health Systems innovation in advanced medical technology, magnet status, and high
ranking, I believe there is no better learning environment. I enjoy working in a team environment
and believe my work ethic and dedication to this specialty would make me a great asset to your
MICU team. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to speaking with you in the
near future.
Respectfully,
Lauren Powell
