About Dr Steve Newbery
Steve received a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Plymouth University in 1982 and then went on to
study at James Cook University, North Queensland, Australia. In 1990 he received his Ph.D
degree titled The Middle Proterozoic Maronan Supergroup, Soldiers Cap Belt, eastern Mount Isa
Inlier; a rationalisation of the geology and mineralisation of a complexly deformed and
metamorphosed terrane.
He has accumulated over 25 years of experience in exploration for base and precious metals
working with considerable success at an executive level all over the world. These activities have
culminated in significant discoveries on four continents in a range of different commodities.
Since 2002 this work has focused on developing an advanced understanding of the mineral
potential of India and the former Soviet Union and developing exploration strategies and
philosophies to permit the fast track discovery of the next generation of world class mineral
deposits. This is part of a 10 year discovery strategy which has already identified potential world
class deposits in gold, PGEs and copper.
Steve has recently overseen the acquisition and delineation of two world class gold deposits and
is now continuing to expand exploration and discovery activities in Africa.

Professional Experience
From 1990 to 1996, Steve was Senior and then Principal Geologist with CRAE/Rio Tinto Plc at Dugald
River (Zn-Pb) and Mount Roseby (Cu) in the Mt Isa Block. Dr Newbery was part of the FS team at
Dugald and led the team to the discovery of the Mount Roseby Cu deposits. Both are currently under
development.
Steve then joined Pasminco Plc as Regional Exploration Manager Curnamona and led the team
responsible for discovering a major new gold-copper system on the Benagerie Ridge. The Portia/North
Portia gold deposit is currently under development.
In 1999 he joined the Board of Lake Resources N.L. Australia as Executive Director Exploration,
operating predominately in Sweden and India, establishing joint ventures with Zinkgruvan Mining AB, a
wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto Plc, and with BHP Billiton Plc. Lake Resources were successfully
listed on the ASX in 2001. Dr Newbery left Lake Resources later that year to start his own company.
In 2002 Dr. Newbery recognised the economic potential of the PGM mineralization at the Boula platinum
deposit and founded PMCI as Managing Director, The Company was successfully listed on AIM in April
2005 and subsequently sold to SUN Group in 2006.
Up to Oct 2013 Oct Steve oversaw discovery, assessment and acquisition activities
within SUN Mining as SVP Exploration and as Technical Director for SUN Gold. This
involved the successful acquisition of the Kluchevskoye and Yubileinoye gold mines
(now +15Moz Au JORC) and the review of numerous investment opportunities in a range
of commodities around the world.

Current Focus

SPN
Steve is now focused on developing new mining projects for his own company the Mutus
Liber International group of companies headquartered in Dubai and on achieving
turnaround solutions for distressed projects. This has culminated in the development of a
Small Scale Mine model for gold in Africa and the establishment of the Mazizi gold mine
and the discovery of the significant Mangai gold deposit
In 2015MLI and Montreux Capital Managements commodity fund have now formed a
JV to invest in and acquire distressed mining companies.
