Abstract

Kampong Bharu Crowd Food Delivery System is a system designed primarily for use
in the food delivery industry. This system will restaurants and to increase scope of
business by reducing the labor cost involved. The system also allows to quickly and
easily manage an online menu which customers can browse and use to place orders
with just few clicks. Restaurant employees then use these orders through an easy to
navigate graphical interface for efficient processing. The purpose of this research is
making an ordering food application based on Android with New Order, Order
History, Restaurant Profile, Order Status, Tracking Order, and Setting Profile
features. The research method used in this research is waterfall model of System
Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method with following phases: requirement
definition, analyzing and determining the features needed in developing application
and making the detail definition of each features, system and software design,
designing the flow of developing application by using storyboard design, user
experience design, Unified Modeling Language (UML) design, and database
structure design, implementation an unit testing, making database and translating
the result of designs to programming language code then doing unit testing,
integration and System testing,integrating unit program to one unit system then
doing system testing, operation and maintenance, operating the result of system
testing and if any changes and reparations needed then the previous phases could
be back.The result of this research is an ordering food application based on Android
for restaurant, customer and dispatch user. The conclusion of this research is to help
customer in making order easily, to give detail information needed by customer, to
help restaurant in receiving order, and to help dispatcher while doing delivery. The
system only cover restaurant in Kampong Bharu area. So, for future development , it
is recommended that this food delivery system cover all area in Malaysia .

CHAPTER 1 : INTRODUCTION

1.1

Introduction

From the past decades, use of mobile devices has greatly increased, that has
led to ease of carrying out day to day activities. Nowadays, wireless networks have
taken over the entire world. Business and financial transactions can now be done
easily and securely, anywhere and anytime. Using Internet, connections can be
established with any devices almost anywhere in the world and can share necessary
information amongst them. The daunting tasks faced in daily lives can now be
accomplished by few of clicks on our Smartphone.This include ordering food from
restaurants. The number of people ordering food from their mobile application is
increasing day by day.
One of the oldest collection of villages in Kuala Lumpur, Kampung Baru was
identified as an agricultural settlement in 1900 so that the Malay locals could retain
their village lifestyle close to the city. The charm of its people and their cooking
stands against the test of time. As time goes,it become more known as Centre of
Food or Food Heaven as there is a lot of various restaurant that serves various kind
of food . A lot of people come to Kampong Bharu just to eat thus creating heavy
traffic congestion around Kampong Bharu in which is also affect neighbouring area
such as Chow Kit Road and Hospital Kuala Lumpur, where ambulans went in and
out regularly.
Kampong Bharu is well known as food heaven by people in Kuala Lumpur .
People come to Kampong Bharu to hunt for the best food and fill in their stomach.
For this reason,an efficient mobile application is to be proposed in this proposal .The
proposed mobile application is Kampong Bharu Crowd Food Delivery System. The
system will be consist of three integrating application , which is user side application,
restaurant side application and despatch side application. This mobile application
system can help people order food around Kampong Bharu from their mobile without

going through the traffic congestion . This will also help to reduce the traffic
congestion in Kampong Bharu .
The idea of project is part of solutions that has been implemented widely by
most of established restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. Indeed , the profit grows because
people easily can order their food anytime,anywhere. This also creates part time job
for anyone who has transportation and free time that want to earn extra pocket
money by helping restaurants delivering food to the customer. So, Kampong Bharu
Crowd Food Delivery System will be beneficial to not only customer,but also
restaurant owners and delivery despatcher. For customer , they can easily order food
from their home , workplace or even anywhere . For restaurant owners,they will
increase their profit with the additional online customers. While for the despatcher, or
any random people who has free time and transportation , they will get extra pocket
money to fill in their pocket.
The system will consist of three intergrating application which has several
module . This includes tracking feature , where customer and restaurant owners can
track the location of despatcher. For customer side application , customer should be
able to order, pay and track for location of delivery despatcher. For the backend ,
restaurant owners should be able to manage order,switch to open order mode, call
for despatcher and track the location of despatcher. For despatcher side of
application, despatcher should be able to manage deliveries ,switch to open for
deliveries mode, and track the location of the restaurant and customer.

Problem Statements

Customer have difficulty to go eat at famous restaurant around Kampong


Bharu because of traffic congestion and parking inavailability.
-The system will enable customer to order food from their smartphone
without the need to go to the restaurant and face traffic congestion.

Restaurant in Kampong Bharu lack in promotion to expand business.


-The system will give restaurant owners the chance to promote their
restaurant for a small fee.

Most of Restaurant in Kampong Bharu do not have food delivery service.


-The system will enable anyone to be despatcher and earn extra
pocket money , thus eliminate the need of restaurant owners to find
and hire a despatcher .

Objectives

The objectives of the systems are:


1. To develop application that allow customer to order food just with their mobile
phone without the need to step out from the house and going through parking
fee and traffic congestion.
2. To produce a system that will help restaurant in Kampong Bharu boost their
bussiness and help them expand it.
3.

To design a system that will allow anybody with transportation to earn extra
income by delivering the food.

Contribution of Study
Online Food Ordering System is a part of e-commerce. E-commerce or

business through net means distributing, buying, selling, marketing, and servicing of
products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other
computer networks. Thus if we own a restaurant we need to upload menu online to
attract potential customers.
The food delivery system gives restaurants the ability to increase sales and
expand their business by giving customers the facility to order food from their mobile
application. With the mobile application, customers can place using their mobile
phone wherever whenever the restaurant is open. Thus it is a simple, fast and
convenient food ordering system giving

an edge over the competition at an

affordable price.

Internet has seen a tremendous growth in terms of coverage and awareness.


So giving the business an online presence has become very crucial and important.
With this system we can set up we restaurant menu using mobile phone and the
customers can easily place order with a simple tap.Also with a food menu on the
mobile application we can easily track the orders, maintain customer's database and
improve the food delivery service. We can receive order through e-mails/ fax or
directly view on internet.
The restaurants can even customize restaurant menu and upload images
easily on this mobile application.

Having

convenience.

-Customer can rate both restaurant and despatcher service
-Customer can review the and comment about the restaurant food and
service.
-Customer can snap photos and upload it to the review section.

- Search restaurant with word specified by user.
4. Payment Module
-Customer can make payment through online banking
5. Recommendation Module
-Customer can view list of famous restaurant and highly recommended by
people

Organization of the Dissertation

The rest of this dissertation is organized as follows. For the next chapter,
chapter 2, it will be the literature review , in which it will explain about comparison of
this study with another study . There will be comparison among mobile application
system that already in the market. Follow by the chapter 2 is chapter 3, where it will
be the methodology section. Inside it we will see how this study is conduct and the
method use to conduct the study. After chapter 3 it will be chapter 4, where it will be
the result and discussion. Chapter 4 will explain about the result gained from this
study, the screenshot of the mobile application and the detail discussion about this
application. Last but not least, we will go through the final conclusion , that is chapter
5. In this chapter we will conclude all the findings and study that we got.
