Dear Beca,
A man by the name of Tom Whittaker was the first person with a disability to reach the summit
of Mount Everest in 1998.
Our CEO and founders son, Trevor, took his entire class to one or Big Time Climb facilities for
a physical education trip. However, one of his classmates, Tommy, was born with a rare form of
Muscular Dystrophy. Our CEO, Rick Flanagan, saw an opportunity and installed adaptive
climbing walls and gear in all of the Big Time Climb facilities. This gear made it possible for
injured or disabled people to participate in the climbing experience.
To promote the event, Mr. Flanagan and other executives from the company have pledged to
climb the Andes in Peru. The trip is completely paid for by Mr. Flanagan himself. All donations
and proceeds will go to charities and organizations including, but not limited to, The Michael J.
Fox Foundation for Parkinsons disease and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
