UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:


The students have already been ensured on the key concepts and basic symbols in One-Step and Two-Step Word
Problems. The objectives for this lesson is to have the students get a better understanding by having them get
into groups of two and create an informational Comic about One-Step Word Problems.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given the Interactive Activity and the Web 2.0 Tool in class, TLW get into groups of two and discuss what was
covered. (Blooms Taxonomy: Comprehension, Analysis.)
Given the Addition and Subtraction Quiz, TLW individually complete the quiz with 100% accuracy.( Blooms
taxonomy: knowledge, comprehension)
Given a computer after being put into groups of two, TLW create an informational Comic about One-Step Word
Problems. (Blooms taxonomy: synthesis)
Student Participation

The goal of this lesson is for students to demonstrate a clear understanding of what One-Step
Word Problems are and how they function. Students provide visual representations through creating a
comic book.

Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of
adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions,
e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.1

Technology Integration
Using Internet access to the Internet, as a class we will cover the Interactive Activity, and Website/Video. Then
the class will be grouped into twos and create a comic and save their work to a shared Dropbox folder for their

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
Students will demonstrate a clear understanding of One-Step Word Problems, and their functions.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
This lesson is a continuation of TN Core Standard CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.OA.A.1
We will refer to the comic created to always have a reference of what a One-Step Word Problem is.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and
for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not
part of this particular lesson.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction:
Begin by displaying the Interactive Activity and Website/Video that the students will cover all together
in class.
Provide some brief background information about its purpose and why One-Step Word problems are
important.
Follow this with a brief discussion giving examples of One-Step Word problems, and solve them
together as a class.
Procedures:
Prior to the Computer (30 minutes)
Teacher Procedures:
1. After the Introduction, begin to go over the
Interactive Activity and Website/Video all
together with the class. Briefly stop for
questions and concerns the students may have.

Student Procedures:
1. Students will complete the Interactive
Activity as a class with the teacher, and
discuss and go over the Website/Video
Provided by the teacher
2. Students will then individually complete a
One-Step Addition and Subtraction Word
Problem Quiz.

At the Computer (30 minutes)

Teacher Procedures:
1. Allow students to go to the website Toon Do and
create an informational Comic on One-Step Word
Problems.
2. Monitor and assist as needed.

Student Procedures:
1. Open Internet browser and got to the website
Toon Do.
2. Students will create a three part
informational comic strip on One-Step Word
Problems.

3. Students will save their work and submit it.


Closure: Students volunteer to share their Informational Comic strips with the class. At the end of class, the
teacher collect the mini quizzes, checks for assignment submissions, and ask the class for questions.

MODIFICATIONS:

I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those
ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this
particular lesson.
