Background:
YouhavebeengiventheopportunitytoshowtheschoolandcommunityatlargehowJ.
T.Fosterdemonstratescareandmakesourbuildingasafe,caringandwelcoming
environment.
Instructions:
Pleasethinkofatimewhenyouwitnessedanactofcareordemonstratedcareto
someoneinourbuilding,inourcommunityorinourworld.Youcanalsothinkofatime
whensomeonedemonstratedcaringrelationstowardsyou(fromourschool).Taketime
toplanhowyouwouldliketoshowcasethisdemonstrationofcare.Youwillconference
withyouradvisorteachertothinkofthebestwaytoshowcaseyourproject.Youcan
createadramaticproductionrecreatingeventsthroughouttheschoolorbringingtolife
momentsofcare;presentations(PowerPoint,GoogleSlideetc);videoproductions;
portfoliopresentations;writeastory;conductanexperiment;calculatetheprobabilityof
workingwithacaringteacherbasedontheirownexperiencesetc.
Whenyourprojectsarecompleted,wewillshowcaseyoursafe,caringandwelcoming
projectstoparents,communitymembers,BoardofTrusteesandcentralofficestaff.
Youmaychoosetoworkindividuallyorinsmallgroupstocreateyourproject.Onceyou
havedecidedonyourproject,youwilldesignarubrictoguideyouthroughyourwork
process.

Safe,caringandwelcominginstance:Anewstudentjoinedourschoolmidsemester.
HewasfromCalgaryandcametoourschoolwithaverypowerfulhistory,onethatmost
studentsdonoteverencounter.Eventhoughhewasmeantotheteachersandprincipals,
theywerealwayskindtohim.Theyalwaysaskedhimhowhewasorhowhisweekend
wasandeventhoughhedidntanswer,theywouldkeeptryingtotalktohim.Somedays,
teacherswouldjustleaveagranolabaronhisdeskorputitinhislockerbecausehe
wasnteating.Oneofourteachersfoundoutthathereallylikedgamingsoshe
incorporatedsomegamingintoourmathlesson.Ithinkthatmadehimabithappier.My
friendsandIsawthattheteachersdidntquit,sowetriedtoincludehiminourproject
workinclassandalsoaskedhimtositwithusatlunchtime.Eventuallyhefeltsaferand
didstarteatingwithusandjoininginonschoolwork.
Projectidea:Aftertalkingtomyadvisorteacher,Ithinkitwouldbebesttoeitherwrite
achildrensbookfortheelementaryschooltoshowhowimportantitistobe
understandingofourfriendsstories,evenifwedontknowthem.OrIwouldliketo
createacollageshowinghowmyschoolhelpedmyfriendfeelsafe.
