After taking the different inventories it's become clear that my philosophy on one

inventory come to be progressivism and social reconstruction, and my second was always
existentialism. All three of these philosophies are student centered philosophies. As I was
reading the different classroom set ups and how these classrooms would look if and when you
walk into one it doesnt surprise me that these were the philosophies that I scored hire on in the
different inventories. While reading them I started thinking about the how i would want my
classroom setup and running. As a Progressivist classroom is more of where the students would
be working in small groups rather than the teacher standing in front of the classroom and
lecturing the class as they are all sitting in their desks. I like this kind of classroom because i feel
the students can get bored with just sitting there listening, I think that a small lecture is good for
the students but they also need to get involved with what you had just taught to the students. That
is where the small groups would come into great play to show what the students had taken from
the lesson. With going into the education wanting to become a preschool teacher, think about the
small groups and different centers is exactly what I want to do with those students. After reading
the Social Reconstructionist it reminds me a lot like the Progressivist classroom as well, the
groups and having the students work on different things and also learning about the same thing is
a great way for students to learn in my opinion.
I believe that school is two things one learning life skill and finding out who you are as a
person along with discovering what you are good at, and two learning the core subjects that will
help you in life and helping you succeed. For my students I want them to learn the skills they
need to succeed not only in life but also in the years of schooling to come. In my opinion when
asked whether the students should focus on content or the development of self- concept,
interpersonal skills, and other personal qualities; I believe that the students should be focusing on

both contents and the development of themselves. It should be a fifty fifty focus, The content
will help them achieve throughout their lives in school but when they get out of school I think
books smarts will only take you so far. With that being said I think the students should also be
learning about themselves and becoming more street smart also, you will face a time where you
will have to make a decision where what you learned in a book will not help you and you will
have to make a decision off of what you feel is the right decision.
In the classroom all the students will have different needs and will learn different. Going
in thinking the class will all need constant monitoring may not be the correct way to look at
things if some students are very independent. There are some students you will have trust in them
and some that are little heathens and you will have to monitor them. I believe that it all depends
on the student. With me wanting to teach preschoolers I still believe that is statement is true,
some of the students may be more mature and won't need as much monitoring as others but you
will never know until you meet that class. I also believe that this statement is true when asked if
you are there to motivate the students or if they need to learn to motivate themselves. I know
how I am personally and there are some times and some areas that I need help with motivation.
Again I think you will have some students that they can motivate themselves and go on but
others will need to be motivated. After being with your class you should know which kids are
motivated and which need help, I think small groups would be great for those students so that the
motivated students can help the non motivated students get motivated. Some students will need
to be pushed to do their best while others will jump right in and work to their full potential. It all
depends on the students and who they are themselves.
My role as a teacher is both to teach the students my knowledge and to guide the students
to make their own decisions. Students will know things off of what you have taught them but

also off their own trial and error processes. Their personal intuition is both important and
valuable for them to succeed and make their own life decisions as well as helping them succeed
in the years to come in their schooling career. Everyone will have their own opinions so you will
have to be open when taking the students, they all have their own personal feelings and if you go
against their opinions you may end up hurting their feelings. When talking to the students and
sharing different opinions with them the evidence and facts to support why you are doing
something will help them trust in you and build a greater relationship with those students.
