Imagine that your three year old son comes home from school every day
crying. He is crying because children pick on him for wearing a tiara. The tiara is
your sons favorite thing to wear because it made him feel special. Everyone is
different and everyone should have their own characteristics. Children should be
able to wear whatever they want without be judged. Our gender should not
determine the things we like. Being picked on at such a young age can really
change someone. Nobody knows how much they have affected someone until it is
too late. You are supposed to help your child, teach them, and love them
unconditionally. Do not force your child to be someone theyre not, let them be
them and let them know that you love them for who they are and not to care what
other people think of them. Letting your child know you love them even if they do
not fit society's stereotypes makes a lot of difference. Gender stereotypes impact
people in school and other places because for the past 30 years people believe they
know someone based off their gender. Gender stereotype is most frequently seen in
the sports, workplace, and women in combat.
Over the years stereotypes have been followed but they have also been
challenged and confronted. One main thing that had been analyzed is sports. When
you compare current/modern women sports to the past , you begin to notice that
women were not entitled to go out and get dirty. People are bombarded with
gender stereotypes from birth till death (Wilde). Like for instance when women tell

the gender of their child people begin to instantly buy a girl something pink and a
boy something blue. Women are portrayed as lady like. They are not to do or act
like anything that may portray a masculine (Wilde).
Women are believed to not be as intelligent as a man. Over 150 years ago
women were not even allowed to be accepted into medical school because they
were not intelligent enough and the same goes for becoming CEO women did not
have enough charge to run a company. Society makes women look weak and not
capable of caring from themselves (M.D). In other instances women may be hired or not
hired based on their appearance. For example, if someone is dressed attractively they may
have more of a chance to be hired than someone a little less attractive. Employers may feel
like you are not qualified even though you are just because they are more comfortable
working with men. Some may also hire you and you may have the same responsibility and
same work experience as another chef they hired aside from the fact that he is male, but
they pay him more than you. There was an Equal Pay Act issued in 1963 and if employers
are caught underpaying women they can be sued and they will have to pay back (Chin).
Lastly, women are discriminated in war. Over the years many things have changed
for women in combat. Like for instance at first women were not even allowed to go fight at
all. Then, near the end of World War 1 they allowed women to enlist. Even though they
open up about 14,000 position for women, men still had 200,000 positions open for them
that women were perfectly capable of doing (Moritz). Many of the positions that are banned
from women are the ones that would help them make their career successful. These many
restrictions to women like not being allowed to go on front line and only allowing nurses to
only go in certain places is being treated unequal.
Gender stereotype is most frequently seen in the sports, workplace, and women in
combat. Women in sports receive gender stereotype because they are not believed to be as

good as men or theyre not capable to be a talented. Secondly, women are stereotyped in a
workplace because women are assumed to not be able to run a business as well as a man or
they are not as aggressive as men. Lastly, women are stereotyped and discriminated in
combat. Women arent able to fight on frontline or they are not allowed to enlist if they have
children that do not have anyone else close to watch them. Men on the other hand are not
questioned on their children. Stuff like this do not add up, women should not still be getting
treated unequal.
