Islam in Iraq
The main religion in Iraq is Islam. The Islam in Iraq flow to known traditions, Sunni and
Shia. Based on the CIA fact book, more than 95% of the people are Muslims (60% from the Shia
tradition and 35% from the Sunni Tradition). Iraq is a home for many religious sites significant
for Sunni and Shia Muslims. Bagdad is the home of Islamic learning and scholarship for
decades. It is true that all the Islamic and Muslims coordination in the capital city of Iraq
signifies the true reality that the country is Muslims dominated. Despite the fact that Muslim is
the main religion, there are other smaller religions in the country like, Christianity and Judaism.
Shia Muslims in Iraq and the rest of the world believe that God alone appoints the
prophet of the Lord and not any other person has the right or obligation to question his
appointment. Only God has the right to appoint the successor of the prophet. They believe that
God chose Ali to become Mohammads successor (He was the first head of state of Islam). It is
believed that, before the death of Muhammad, he designated Ali as his successor. During the last
pilgrimage, Mohammad ordered all the Muslims to gather at Khumm and it is believed by the
Shia Muslims that this was the time he nominated Ali as his successor. Ali was the first Muslim
Sunni.
The concern of women in Islam is very controversial. Any materials related to this
subject, whether online or in print should be used with since of lack of objectivity of the concepts

or ideas. It can be can agree that the right of women in the holy Muslim book and by Prophet
Mohammad were a vast improvement of women role in Islam. The prophet considered women as
human beings who have the right to take part in the transformation of the world, but limited to
spiritual roles. Women are considered as weak creatures that cannot stand for their faith and that
offering them roles that concern faith is like throwing the faith in the ocean. Just after the death
of Muhammad, women were thrown back into their den lacking gender rights. Not until the 20th
century has women gained insights fighting for their rights in Islam faith.
According to the Islamic review, the Koran started with Mohammads revelations when
he was at the age of 40 in 610. The history of Islam began when the verses of the Koran was
revealed to the Sahabah during the life of Muhammad. The rise of Islam started at a time
Muslims moved to Medina. With Islam, blood disputes among the Arabs reduced. Compensation
was now paid in money rather than blood. It agrees that the rise of Islam began after Mohammad
come to power, but the religion existed even before the life of Mohammed Started.
