- Wander through the website and five things you

didnt know about. Describe these in a paragraph
each.
1-

I found that that the Ohio Department of Education doesnt

only focus on education in elementary, middle school and high

school levels, but that it focuses on the kids learning development
from the birth until they finish high school.
2-

I found that Ohio Department of Education is offering

different kind of materials to help teachers, parents and students

achieve their goals. One of those materials is videos, which could
easily be found on YouTube on the Ohio Department of Education
channel. I consider those videos to be really effective recourse
because theyre rich in valuable information which is summarized
in 3-5 minutes videos. Using the technology effectively is the way
to describe these informative videos.

3-

I found that the Ohio Department of Education focus on

parents and their important role in helping their kids achieving

their goals. The website has a whole section devoted only to
parents. Informing the parents from the reading level their
children need to reach to the psychological and mental
development for each level.
4-

I found that the Ohio Department of Education is focusing not

only on the pure educational and learning aspect but also

focusing on mixing fun and entertainment with learning. An
example of that would be putting PBS KIDS AND PBS PARENTS
on the Ohio Department of Education list of Family Learning Tips
and Tools. Using this kind of entertainment, which PBS offers, such
shows as, Curious Gorge, ODD Squad, The Cat in the Hat and
much more could teach kids valuable information in an enjoyable
and fun way.
5-

Finally, I found that the Ohio Department of Education is

giving an enormous amount of concern to early childhood learning

development, and the great results and achievement in reading
levels that child could reach if were taking care of that age group.

Locate the assessment/testing area. Find five things

you didnt know, are curious about, or considered
about regarding testing. Describe and comment on
each of these in no more than two paragraphs each.

1-

I found that The Ohio Department of Education is offering

Student Practice Resources which offer samples of the test

questions and answers for all the subjects such as sciences,
mathematics and more.
2-

I found that students could practice the test before they do

the real one. The Ohio Department of Education is giving the

students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the test,
which I believe is a really good point. After few times of practicing
the test online, fear and the stress levels could be reduced
tremendously.
3-

I found that the assessment and testing start from the 3rd

grade and continues to high school.

4-

The test is computer based, and there are many useful tools

that all student could benefit from. For example, writing tools,
question tools and text to speech tool, which all can help students
perform better on the test.

5-

I was wondering about the anxiety that students may

experience due all those testing and assessment throughout their

school years. I found some articles that are aimed for parents to
help them prepared their kids for the test, and avoid the test
anxiety. However, I couldnt find a real life techniques addressed
to the student themselves to help them get over this kind of
stress.

Students BY CINDY LONG, the author explains in details the pros
of having common core standards in American schools system.
The writer believes that the common core standards will enhance
the students creativity in the classroom. Also she believes that
the common core standards represent equity and fairness. Finally,

students for collage.
Find Online source that doesnt support the common core
standards. Summarize the main points.
In the video, Reasons Why Common Core is Bad for Education
the author talked about the cons of the common core standards,
and I he summarized them in this points:
#1 -- Common Core Ignores Parental Rights
#2 -- Common Core is Materialistic and Naturalistic
#3 -- Common Core Dictates What Will be Taught
#4 -- Uniformity Alone Does Not Improve Education

- Find at least two sources that explain how Ohio
school are funded. Summarize them in one page.
In the video, EDT 362 Ohio School Funding by Rachel Sauer,
the author explained how Ohio school are funded in two minutes

video. At first, Mrs. Sauer clarified that at the beginning, the

federal government was the responsible for supporting the
American schools system. However, she explained that this
federal government didnt get enough money to fund all the
schools around the United States, and most of the money raised
came from the local taxpayer or local government. The problem
here, as the author explained, that this way of funding led to
unequal funding to schools around America. Also, Mrs. Sauer
many challenges that the Ohio School funding system is facing,
and that educating ourselves about them is the first step to
solving them.
In the article, HISTORY OF OHIO PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDING, the
author speaks about the history of Ohio school funding system.
Firstly, the author states the three top sources of Ohio school
funding, which are the federal government, the state district, and
finally the local sources. However, each source present different
amount of funding. For example, the federal government gives
small amount of funding to the schools, where the local sources
give the largest share of funding. Throughout the article, the
author talks about the different stages and phases the school

funding system in Ohio have been through in details. Finally, the

author explains the importance of education to build a strong
community, and how we should work to solve the problem in
funding school around America.
