Doug McCurry
Superintendent
Achievement First Providence Mayoral Academy Elementary School
370 Hartford Avenue
Providence, RI 02909
Dear Mr. McCurry,
I am interested in the Elementary Teacher (1-3) position advertised on November 30,
2016 in the School Spring website. I am interested in this position because I believe in
your commitment to inspire all students to reach high expectations that will help them
succeed. I truly believe that as educators we need to be advocates for our students, and
help them achieve their full potential. Your goals and commitments for the students in
your school district is what all districts should strive for. I have been very passionate in
my commitment to my students since I began my teaching career and share many of the
same goals. I make sure that I inspire students interest and instill self-worth within them.
Your district has a very positive reputation in cultural diversity and achieving academic
excellence. It would truly be a great honor to teach your students and serve a district that
commits greatly to their students and provides students with opportunities for success.
My qualifications include 4 years of elementary teaching experience where I had the
opportunity to serve students with disabilities in an inclusion classroom as well as
teaching English language learners.

In my recent position I taught third and fourth grade curricula. I established an effective
classroom management plan that was conducive to learning. I developed and enforced
this plan in order to maintain a safe and orderly environment. I not only focused on the
cognitive development of the students but also addressed the social and emotional
learning by employing techniques like positive reinforcement. For me, it is extremely
important to maintain good communication with all stakeholders. I have attended
Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings with parents, administrators, testing
specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans
designed to meet students educational needs. Special educational strategies and
techniques were consistently deployed during my instruction. I have the knowledge and
skills to modify the general education curriculum for special needs students based on a
variety of instructional strategies. In my past employment, I have worked closely with the
special education teacher to coordinate placement of students with special needs into
mainstream classes. Professional growth is something that I highly value and as such, I
have attended various workshops to improve my professional competence. These
workshops were beneficial in that they allowed me to provide parents and guardians with
community resources that would teach them skills to assist with their childs disability. As
an enthusiastic volunteer, I have participated in the various extra curricular activities the
school hosted.
Although I have enjoyed teaching at Ysleta School District, my husband has been given
orders to be stationed in Rhode Island. I am eager to continue my teaching career and
would be delighted to interview for this opportunity.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Vanessa De La Pea
