Rough Draft #1

Faucet
Have you ever stared at a faucet long enough?
Have you dipped hands below the coolness of water,
And tried to clasp on, to grasp the water, as it goes

Only to fail. The water striking the days dirt from pores, and
Splashing against the basin with fever
The waterthe dirtskin cellsall of it
Churning and mixing together at the bottom of the basin, until
They, hand in hand, dance through the pipes toward the
Sea as one. No longer dirt, no longer water
But only sea. All of it coming together to mean life.

Rough Draft #2

Faucet
Have you tried to clasp on?
Water washing away a days dirt,
Have you felt the coolness of water

As knuckles whiten, and fingers strangle

Rushing like Congo, fulvous streams of blue

Clenching and unclenching

Knocking against the white basin with fever

WaterDirtSkins cells Churned, chopped,
Mixed. Muddled without prejudice. All of you baptized
Into the sink by a faucet, grey necked, knobbed handed,

Sanctifying in the experience,

As the ocean welcomes all of you home.
