ASSIGNMENT No. 1
Note: All questions are compulsory. Each question carries equal marks.
Q. 1 (a) What are the differences between C and C++ languages? Explain some of the
common advantages of using C++.
(20)
(b) Differentiate between compiler and Interpreter. Give suitable example to
support your answer.
Q. 2 (a)
(b)
List three most widely used object oriented programming languages with a
little description.
(20)
Explain the following concepts
i.
Inheritance
ii.
Polymorphism
iii. Overloading
Q. 3 You are probably using a mobile phone, one of the most common types of objects.
Discuss how each of the following terms and concepts applies to the notion of a
mobile phone: object, attributes, behaviors, class, abstraction, encapsulation,
information hiding, data members and member functions.
(20)
Q. 4 (a)
Use for loops to construct a program that displays a diamond shape of (+) on
the screen. The diamond should look like shown here, except that it should
be 9 lines high, instead of 5 lines. One way to do this is to nest two inner
loops, one to print spaces and one to print asterisks (+), inside an outer loop
that steps down the screen from line to line.

Write a program that allows the user to enter a floating-point number
representing degrees Celsius, and then displays the corresponding degrees
Fahrenheit. The formula for Fahrenheit is F = (9/5)*C + 32.
What is the principle reason for passing arguments to a function by
reference? In what unusual place can you use a function call when a function
returns a value by reference?
(20)
Write a C++ program in which a function interchange two float values passed
to it by the calling program (this function swap the values of the variable in
calling program not those in the function) you shall need to decide how to
pass the arguments.
ASSIGNMENT No. 2
Total Marks: 100
Pass Marks: 50
Note: All questions are compulsory. Each question carries equal marks.
Q. 1 (a)
(b)
Q. 2 (a)
(b)
Write a program that allows the user to input a number of integers, and then
stores them in an int array. Write a function called maxint( ) that goes
through the array, element by element, looking for the largest one. The
function should take as arguments the address of the array and the number of
elements in it, and return the index number of the largest element. The
program should call this function and then display the largest element and its
index number.
(20)
Write a program that reads a group of numbers from the user and places them
in an array of type float. Once the numbers are stored in the array, the
program should calculate the average of the input numbers, find the smallest
and the largest number from the group of input numbers and print the result
for all calculations. Use pointer notation wherever possible.
What is a pointer? How it can be used to access an array and to pass array to
a function. State your answer with the help of C++ program.
(20)
For each of the following, write a single statement that performs the specified
task. Assume that long variables value1 and value2 have been declared and
value1 has been initialized to 200000.
i.
Declare the variable longPtr to be a pointer to an object of type long.
ii.
Assign the address of variable value1 to pointer variable longPtr.
iii. Print the value of the object pointed to by longPtr.
iv. Assign the value of the object pointed to by longPtr to variable value2.
v.
Print the value of value2.
vi. Print the address of value1.
vii.
Print the address stored in longPtr. Is the value printed the same as
value1s address?
Q. 5 (a)
(b)
Write a program that prints the value 100.453627 rounded to the nearest
digit, tenth, hundredth, thousandth and ten-thousandth.
(20)
Write a statement for each of the following:
i.
Print integer 40000 left justified in a 15-digit field.
ii.
Read a string into character array variable state.
iii. Print 200 with and without a sign.
iv. Print the decimal value 100 in hexadecimal form preceded by 0x
What is meant by throwing an exception? What is the sequence of events
when an exception occurs?
(20)
Write a template function that returns the average of all the elements of an
array. The arguments to the function should be the array name and the size of
the array (type int). In main( ), exercise the function with arrays of type int,
long, double, and char.
