Spread over 70,000 square meters at Pragati Maidan – Delhi,

the 9th Auto Expo, has attracted an

unprecedented Rs 20,000 crore in business for the 1,200 crore exhibitors. Excitement from the
Tata Nano meant that 1.8 million visitors visited the Expo.

9TH
Against this, the auto show of 2006 had attracted ‘only’ one million visitors. The auto show also
saw over 9,000 trade enquiries, with 21 per cent coming from foreign visitors. Over 100 MOUs
were signed during this period. While 59 per cent of MOUs were inked with business visitors, 27

Vishnu Mathur, executive director, ACMA says, ‘30 international delegations, from Germany,
France, Japan, Spain and Canada and others, showed a keen interest in Indian Auto Component
sector.

2008
But this is only the big picture. The Expo has been a stupendous showcase of new-age trucks,
buses, utility vehicles, three-wheelers and tractors. The body builders and component makers
were in big attendance too. Over the course of the following pages, we let you occupy a virtual
front seat of all the action. Enjoy it!!

Scorpio Hybrid >>

The Scorpio HEV is a parallel diesel-electric hybrid vehicle that offers advantages of a diesel engine and an electric motor. The combustion
engine, the electric machine and the automatic transmission are coupled together through a mechanical torque convertor. The good lower end
torque, characteristic of the electric machine, provides improved acceleration behaviour and a crisp throttle response. Further the e-motor either
assists or loads the engine making the vehicle high on performance yet environment friendly.
There are four modes in which the hybrid operates:
MOTOR ASSIST MODE: Both the combustion engine and electric motor simultaneously power the vehicle
REGENERATIVE BRAKING MODE: Part of the brake energy wasted as heat is recuperated using the e-machine, as a generator into the battery.
GENERATOR MODE: The combustion engine powers the vehicle while charging the batteries during partial load conditions
IDLE CHARGING MODE: If the battery state-of-charge is lower than the threshold, the combustion engine recharges the batteries while idling.
