GE
Transportation
It required 6 years, and a more than $250 million investment in research and
development by GE, including some of the most rigorous testing imaginable.
Fifty locomotives in the field were pushed to the limit under the most demanding,
real-world conditions, logging the equivalent of more than half a century of field
experience before launch.

At GE, we take our role of global citizen very seriously.
Part of that responsibility is protecting our environment.
That is why we:

• Designed the first gas-turbine, combined-cycle system capable of
achieving 60 percent thermal efficiency. • Developed molded color plastics and polymer films for cars, eliminating
the need for pollution-producing paint.
• Are leading the way to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future

excess of 16 million pounds of material a year.
• Developed the GE90 aircraft engine that burns 30 percent less fuel for
each pound of thrust. • Developed Noryl Wire Coating for the automotive industry, with no heavy
metals, no dioxin and less weight.
• Conserved nearly 22 billion gallons of water and saved 2.7 million tons
of solid waste from landfills in the last two years, with GE Betz products. • Are currently investigating cleaner fuels, such as hydrogen.

EVOLUTION SERIES TECHNOLOGY BEARS CLOSE INSPECTION,
BY ACCOUNTING AS WELL AS ENGINEERING.
Overcoming obstacles with technological innovation
is meaningless if that technology isn’t economically
viable for everyday use. That’s why every component
in an Evolution Series locomotive is proven to meet the
demands of those who operate them as well as those
who pay for them.
Nowhere is this more evident than with the GEVO-12
engine. The heart of the Evolution Series locomotives, the
45-degree, 12-cylinder, 4-stroke, turbocharged GEVO-12
engine produces the same 4,400 HP as its 16-cylinder
predecessor. And it does it with greater fuel efficiency,
lower emissions, and extended overhaul intervals.
Enhanced cooling and higher-strength materials
dramatically improve reliability and allow for future
increases in power and efficiency.

emissions by over 40 percent.
Lower lifecycle costs equal greater long-term value.
Evolution Series locomotives were not only engineered to be the industry’s most fuel-efficient
and environmentally compatible, they were also designed to provide railroads with the greatest
possible long-term value.
