OvertimeIhavehadnumerousconversationswithmyunclewhoisaneconomist.He
wouldtalkaboutglobalfinancialeconomicsandthedifferentinstitutionsthatmanipulatethe
globaleconomy,Iwasalwaysfascinated.Forthatreason,whensearchingforatopicIturnedto
myuncle,whosuggestedtheBrettonWoodsAgreementwhichexploredwaystostabilizethe
globalmonetarysystem.
IbeganmyresearchbygoingtotheAlvinShermanLibraryatNovaSoutheastern
University,whereIfoundnumerousbooks,includingTheOriginsofInternationalEconomic
Disorder:AStudyofUnitedStatesInternationalMonetaryPolicyfromWorldWarIItothe
PresentbyFredL.Block.IvisitedtheWorldBankinWashingtonD.C.There,Iinterviewed
KetleenFlorestal,advisortotheExecutiveDirectorforBrazil,Colombia,theDominican
Republic,Ecuador,Haiti,Panama,thePhilippines,Suriname,andTrinidadandTobago.She
explainedtheWorldBanksimpactontheglobaleconomytodaycomparedtowhenitwas
created.ThenextpersonIinterviewedwasMichelleDurhamKissoon,advisortotheExecutive
Director.SheexplainedsomeoftheprojectsthattheWorldBankandIMFhavecontributedto,
suchasthebullettraininJapan.NextIspokewithJaimeAlvarez,SeniorAdvisortothe

IwantedmyexhibittoshowtheimportanceandstrengththeU.S.dollarhadonthe
globaleconomyafterWorldWarII,soIdesignedthelogothatisseenthroughoutmyproject.I

hookedaniPaduptotheexhibitbasethatdisplaystwovideostohelpviewersunderstandhow
theconferencewaspresentedtotheworld.Thefirstvideoisanewsreelfrom1944explaining
theBrettonWoodsConference.ThesecondvideodescribestheBrettonWoodsAgreementand
howthesystemworks.
ContributingcausestoWorldWarIIwerethenearcollapseofmanyoftheworld
economiesandtheeconomicbarrierstotradethatmademattersworse.NeartheendofWorld
WarII,delegatesfromthe44AlliedNationsmetinNewHampshireattheUnitedNations
MonetaryandFinancialConferencetoexplorewaystostabilizetheglobalmonetarysystem.
Duringtheencounterbetweenleadingeconomists,theyexchangedideasthatledtotheBretton
WoodsSystem.ThiscreatedtheInternationalMonetaryFund,theWorldBank,andmadethe
U.S.dollarthedefactoglobalcurrency.
