Dear Parents,
We are starting our Global Research Project, a research project about countries around the world!
This project will help students acquire the skills they need to successfully write papers, organize
their writing, collaborate with peers, use technology responsibly, and speak in front of audiences.
We will be working on this project from November 30 to December 19, 2016. Students will need
your support to complete this assignment. We are asking you to support your child at home in the
ways listed below.
1. November 30- December 5- Read to increase knowledge. Collect notes and sources
Your child has selected a country they would like to become an expert on. Your child
must gain information about their country from at least 3 different sources (articles,
books, videos). You can assist at home by helping your child locate information about
their country on the internet and/or checking out a book from the public library. Students
should write down notes and sources names in note journal and return to school every
day.
2. December 10-15- Create Diagram of Flag (include labels), locate and color Country
on World Map
* All students must include a diagram of the countrys flag or some other type of artifact.
Students will be given construction paper to create their flag diagram. Students can be as creative
as they would like in their flag diagram.
Example: My country is the United States of America
I will be creating a Hundreds Chart on my paper and coloring it in to represent the
American Flag.
13 stripes- represent
the 13 original
colonies

Blue Color stands

for justice and loyalty

Red Color stands

for valor, or courage
during battle

White Color stands

for liberty

Students will present their research and flag on December 20th in front of their peers and
parents. Parents are invited to attend the presentation on December 20th at 1:30pm. More
details will be sent home soon. Attached you will find the project rubric that we will use
to assess students project. Thank you for your on-going support.
