GROUP DISCUSSION
Group Discussion is a methodology or in a simple language you may
call it an interview process or a group activity. It is used as one of the
best tools to select the prospective candidates in a comparative
perspective. Group Discussion may be used by an interviewer at an
organization, colleges or even at different types of management
competitions.

Group Discussion is a methodology used by an organization to gauge

whether the candidate has certain personality traits and/or skills that it
desires in its members. In this methodology, the group of candidates is
given a topic or a situation, given a few minutes to think about the same,
and then asked to discuss the topic among themselves for 15-20 minutes.
Aspects which make up a Group Discussion are:
* Verbal Communication
* Non-verbal behavior
* Confirmation to norms
* Decision making ability
* Cooperation

DEBATE
A debate, therefore, is a formal, disciplined, and rule-governed
contest/competition that is conducted within a set framework. A debate
may comprise single participants or teams that include several students.

In a typical debate, two teams are presented with a proposition that they
will debate, with each team given a set period of time to prepare their
arguments. Debates are performed in a structured setting that gives all
participants a chance to present and defend their arguments

SEMINAR
A seminar may be defined as a gathering of people for the purpose of
discussing a stated topic. Such gatherings are usually interactive sessions
where the participants engage in discussions about the delineated topic.
The sessions are usually headed or led by one or two presenters who
serve to steer the discussion along the desired path.

A seminar may have several purposes or just one purpose. For instance,
a seminar may be for the purpose of education, such as a lecture, where
the participants engage in the discussion of an academic subject for the
aim of gaining a better insight into the subject. Other forms of
educational seminars might be held to impart some skills or knowledge
to the participants.

ASSIGNMENT
The basic objectives of assigning homework to students are the same as
schooling in general: to increase the knowledge and improve the abilities
and skills of the students. However, opponents of homework cite
homework as rote, or grind work, designed to take up children's time,
without offering tangible benefit.

Homework may be designed to reinforce what students have already

learned, prepare them for upcoming (or complex or difficult) lessons,
extend what they know by having them apply it to new situations, or to
integrate their abilities by applying many different skills to a single task.
Homework also provides an opportunity for parents to participate in
their children's education.

BRAINSTORMING
Brainstorming is a group creativity technique by which efforts are made
to find a conclusion for a specific problem by gathering a list of ideas
spontaneously contributed by its members.
Brainstorming combines a relaxed, informal approach to problem
solving with lateral thinking. It encourages people to come up with
thoughts and ideas that can, at first, seem a bit crazy. Some of these
ideas can be crafted into original, creative solutions to a problem, while
others can spark even more ideas. This helps to get people unstuck by
"jolting" them out of their normal ways of thinking.

Therefore, during brainstorming sessions, people should avoid

criticizing or rewarding ideas. You're trying to open up possibilities and
break down incorrect assumptions about the problem's limits. Judgment
and analysis at this stage stunts idea generation and limit creativity.

BUZZ SESSION
Buzz sessions are short participative sessions that are deliberately built
into a lecture or larger group exercise in order to stimulate discussion
and provide student feedback.

Buzz Session focus groups discuss important and interesting topics

related to protein pipeline processes from upstream discovery to
downstream development. This is a moderated discussion with
brainstorming and interactive problem solving between scientists from
diverse areas who share a common interest in the discussion topic.

SIMULATION
Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or
system over time. The act of simulating something first requires that a
model be developed; this model represents the key characteristics or
behaviors/functions of the selected physical or abstract system or
process. The model represents the system itself, whereas the simulation
represents the operation of the system over time.

Simulation techniques, especially those implemented on a computer, are

frequently employed in natural as well as in social sciences with
considerable success. There is mounting evidence that the model-

building era (J. Niehans) that dominated the theoretical activities of the
sciences for a long time is about to be succeeded or at least lastingly
supplemented by the simulation era.
