Term 3
We have been extremely busy in Term 3 working in
the Auckland region as well as many opportunities
in the WBOP. We have also presented again at
many local churches and youth groups throughout
Tauranga and the Waikato.
Christchurch Trip
I was fortunate enough to be invited back to
Christchurch by a couple I had met at a dentist
conference I had spoken at about 4-5 years ago on
the impact of methamphetamine.
Alwyn & Retha Prinsloo, formulated a plan to bring
the Amped4Life message back to the South Island.
I was asked to come and share with their children
and also to friends and families that they knew
who they knew would benefit from our visit. I was
able to bring my son Seth with me on the trip. As a
result, we had a fantastic Dad and son time. I was
also invited to speak at a local youth Group at All
Nations church on the Friday night where their
children attend.

Feedback
The key messages that I learnt was mostly how
drugs is not just a personal issue, it affects the
others around you. Pat said how he has had to
bury many loved ones, and he talked about how
his friends influenced him into starting and then
getting out of drugs. This made me realise that
this is more than just a personal thing because it
completely influences the lives around you too.
What really spoke to me was the experiences that
he had and the stories that he shared about his
involvement with drugs. Usually we read about
the negative effects on the body and then how it
damages society and relationships with others.
But hearing a personal story right in front of us
had much more impact in getting it into our heads.
I liked how he presented these stories and unlike
most talks we are given in school, he never used
the words dont do drugs. Instead he influencing
us away from drugs by saying that we are better
than that and we have potential to lead amazing
lives. This gives us hope and it lets us feel as
though we are more adult like because it felt as
though Pat was giving us this decision on our
own instead of telling us what to do. His personal
stories about what he has gone through is enough
to influence anyone to never even touch drugs.
This is what made his talk as inspirational as it was
