There will be two class tests for RM & CA, as per the Academic Calendar.

CT-1 will cover unit 1 & unit 2 and is of 40 marks with duration of two hours.
CT-2 will cover unit 3, unit 4 & unit 5 and is of 60 marks with duration of two

hours.
To appear in the ESE examination candidate should have 75% of attendance

as per CSVTU rules.


Two assignments

Term Paper 1 and Term Paper 2


100 marks each for term paper 1 and term paper 2.

Subjects for term paper 1 and term paper 2 will be decided by

supervisor and co-supervisor based on the field of research of


the candidate
Term paper 1 and term paper 2 will be different for every candidate
For example if the candidates research area is Data Science:

then his/her term paper 1 will be Big data Analytics and Hadoop.
Term paper 2 can be Programming in Python/ Programming in R/

Statistics/ Data mining and warehousing/ Operations Research

Term Paper 1 and Term Paper 2

Another example if the candidates research area is Theoretical

Computer Science: then his/her term paper 1 is Formal languages


and automata theory
Term paper 2 can be Algorithms design and analysis (related to his

topic)

Syllabus for term paper 1 and term paper 2


Each syllabus should contain 5 units uniformly distributed as per

CSVTU scheme.
Syllabus should include 5 Course Objectives and 5 Course

Outcomes, one from each unit.


Syllabus should mention two textbooks and at least two reference

books.
Syllabus should be prepared in such a way that it can be completed in

one semester. Should be useful for your research.


It can be any M. Tech subject paper which is helpful for your Ph. D
Should be submitted in both hard and softcopy before 15th Nov. 2016

How to study term paper 1 and 2


Go through NPTEL lecturers
Go through Spoken tutorials
Go through video lectures

The evaluation depends on supervisor but submission of syllabus and

assignments are compulsory.


Solve the assignments

The assignment question can be same as that of the assignment questions

given in NPTEL/spoken tutorials


Write answers only after going through the subject

Study book/e-books
Attend workshops/STTPs on the subject

Question bank for term paper 1 and term paper 2

Question bank should content of 25 long questions (10

marks each), that include 5 questions from each unit.


Each question may have sub parts.

Should be submitted in both hard and softcopy before 15th Nov. 2016

Evaluation of Term Paper 1 and Term Paper 2


There will be two assignments each for TP1 and TP2.
Assignment 1 should cover unit 1 & unit 2 (10 questions from the

question bank).
Assignment 2 should cover unit 3, unit 4 & unit 5 (15 questions from

the question bank).


Assignment 1 carries 10 marks and assignment 2 carries 15 marks.
The assignment questions will be from the respective question bank.

Make the assignment copy checked by your supervisor.


Submit the evaluated assignments to the coordinator as per the

Academic Calendar.

Marks should be based on number questions attempted

and correctness of answer.

Presentations for term paper 1, term


paper 2 and literature survey
There will be two presentations for Term Paper 1, Term Paper 2 &

Literature Survey separately as per the Academic Calendar and it will be


conducted by DRC committee of the respective department.
First presentation for Term Paper 1 & Term Paper 2 should include Unit 1

& Unit 2 which is of 10 marks each. The presentation should include the
summary of the units and its significance in your research.
Second presentation for Term Paper 1& Term Paper 2 should consist of

Unit 3, Unit 4 & Unit 5 which is of 15 marks each. The presentation


should include the summary of the units and its significance in your
research.

Attendance of TP1, TP2 and literature


survey
Attendance of TP1, TP2 and literature survey will be maintained by

supervisor/Co-supervisor(s).
On the basis of attendance, TP1 and TP2 carries 50 marks and literature

survey also carries 50 marks.


The attendance sheet is provided to the candidate. (through group mail)
Keep two copies of the attendance sheet for each subject, one with

candidate and other with supervisor


At the end of session attendance sheet will be submitted by the candidate

to the coordinator duly signed by Supervisor & Co-supervisor.


Regular interaction with supervisor and communication about your

research progress

Literature survey of your research


Gather inspiration by reading, following lectures, talking to colleagues, thinking...

Read at-least 15 research papers related to your topic of research


Make a summary of each. Find any gaps in each paper (in conclusion)
write down your ideas immediately as you get them, creating a collection of notes
Read 15 more papers related to your idea. (Keep filing in hard and soft)
Quality of papers read (Recent work)
organize your notes by using the method of outlining or idea processing
develop your outline into a (PowerPoint) presentation and make report
present this outline as seminars, so as to get feedback from your colleagues
taking into account the feedback, develop your outline into a working paper

announce your working paper to supervisor, requesting more detailed feedback


taking into account the feedback, improve your paper and submit it for publication

One paper publication based on literature survey (Comparative study etc)


Participate in conferences and seminars
Become a member of research groups (your field of study). Go through their websites regularly.
