Introduction
My mother, a Registered Nurse, had recently reminded me that when I was 3 years old I had once casually professed to her
that, Im going to do what you do someday! on a day that she brought me with her to work as a private-duty nurse. As adorable as it
sounded, I dont think she took my impromptu declaration too seriously. Clearly, my 3 year-old self was quite the visionary. Not many
years later I wanted to be a professional athlete, as many other young boys aspire to be. As my passion and talent for athletics grew
strong, my teenage years left me with multiple unexpected injuries. I was left on the sidelines from competitive running for 7 years as
I battled the consequences of what had developed into chronic injury. As you learn more about me below, youll see that my status of
being on the sidelines is no longer the case, and that Ive overcome that mountain. Three months ago I summited the highest
mountain in the contiguous US in 3 hours as a trail-run. Im able to do the things I love, such as running in the mountains, because of
the endless compassion and remarkable care Ive received from medical professionals. This is where my passion for healthcare
triumphed. Sixteen years after I made that casual remark to my mother, it became true. I became a Registered Nurse. I can now
proudly say I became a Nurse Practitioner, and having been a patient myself, I can look at my patients straight in their eyes and share
in their suffering, and give them hope as well.
