Sick Time Policy under New York Citys Paid Sick Leave Law

Employee working in New York City and at least 80 hours per calendar year are eligible for paid
sick leave. Eligible employee accrue sick leave at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours of work, up
to a maximum of 40 hours of sick leave per calendar year. Calendar year is from January 1st to
December 31st.
You begin to accrue sick leave on April 1, 2014 or on your first day of employment, whichever is
later. Sick leave can be used 120 days after you begin your employment and in increments of
one hour. Any unused sick hours can be carried over to the next calendar year but employees
can only take 40 hours per calendar year and will not be paid any hours upon termination.
The Sick Time Plan provides paid time off for absence/s due to:
The employees mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition
The employees need for medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of a mental or physical
illness, injury, or health condition
The employees need for preventive medical care
Care of a family member who needs medical diagnosis, care, or treatment of an illness,
injury, or health condition, or who needs preventive medical care. Family member could
be your child (biological, adopted, or foster child; legal ward; child of an employee
standing in loco parentis), grandchild, spouse, domestic partner, parent, grandparent,
child or parent or an employees spouse or domestic partner or sibling (including a half,
adopted, or step sibling)
Closure of employers business due to a public health emergency (as declared by the
Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene or the
Mayor)
The employees need to care for a child whose school or child care provider is closed
due to a public health emergency
You are required to provide up to 7 days advance notice of your intention to use sick leave if
the need is foreseeable. If the need is unforeseeable, you must give notice as soon as
practicable. Artech requires documentation from a licensed health care provider if you take
more than 3 consecutive work days as sick leave.
