New Installation Overview

For installation help and details, see the Dell Wyse WSM Administrators Guide available
at http://www.dell.com/wyse/manuals or by clicking Help on the top-right corner of the
WSM Administrator Console.
NOTE: WSM 7.2.0 has two types of installers that you can download:

Evaluation Version (WSMSuite7.2.0-Evaluation.exe)

Production Version (WSMSuite7.2.0.exe)

IMPORTANT:Both installers are identicial, however, the evaluation installer cannot be

used to upgrade prior WSM Iinstallations.
General Instructions for Installation are given below:

Download WSMSuite7.2.0.exe or WSMSuite7.2.0-Evaluation.exe and double-click

the file to launch the installer.

The installer installs Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express as an embedded option
by default. If you want to use another external database, be sure to select the

Release 7.2.0

custom installation option and provide the required external database server
information.

Install the WSM Core Server. If you selected to use an external database during
installation the installer prompts you to specify the database server name. Do not
use local or the IP address of the database server. For named instances, use server
name\instance name (do not select (local)\instance name).

Log in using the Administrator Console Login page. Click Start > All Programs >
WSM Server > WSM Admin Console on the machine on which you have installed
the WSM Core Server. You can also use your Web browser from any machine with
access to the WSM Core Server and go to: http://<ipaddress>:8080/admin/.

You are now ready to start configuring your WSM system. You can follow
instructions provided on the screen and in Dell Wyse WSM Administrators Guide.
NOTE: Follow the instructions of each step in the Setup area. The instructions
prompt you to click the About link on the top-right corner of the Overview page to
open and use the About WSM page that contains all the install binaries such as WSM
client, WSM server, Application publisher, and WSM utilities that can be downloaded
from the management portal.

Upgrad ing Installation Overview

For upgrade installation help and details, see the Dell Wyse WSM Administrators Guide
available at http://www.dell.com/wyse/manuals or by clicking Help on the top-right
corner of the WSM Administrator Console.

Upgrades is supported from versions 7.x.x

OS Images from WSM 7.x.x releases are compatible with and can be used with WSM
v7.2.0 Server.

You cannot use the evaluation installer to upgrade prior WSM installations.

Upgrad ing Servers

IMPORTANT: Server installations of WSM v7.x.x or later can be upgraded while
configured as Headquarters or Linked Sites.
1. Download the WSMSuite7.2.0.exe file.
2. Upgrade the Core Server or Headquarters first by running the WSMSuite7.2.0.exe on
the Core server or Headquarters. This upgrades the existing Core server software to
WSM 7.2.0.
3. Upgrade each Linked site and Edge server in your installation: Go to the WSM
Administrator Console and use the installer link to select WSM Server (Upgrade
Only) on all of the edge servers in your installation.
Download and install WSM Server for additional edge and core servers in your
topology.

Upgrad ing Cl ients

IMPORTANT: Ensure that the base installation of the WSM client OS image is version 7.x
or above before you proceed with the WSM v7.2.0 upgrade.

Chapter 1
1. Log in to the WSM Administrator Console from the device on which you want to
upgrade the WSM Client.
2. Click the Installers link on the top-right corner of the Overview page to open the
About WSM page.
3. Click the WSM Client link to download and install the WSM Client.
The application recognizes the operating system installed on the device and
automatically downloads the correct 32-bit or 64-bit version of the WSM Client.
IMPORTANT: Two Windows security pop-ups will appear related to driver
installation. Select the Intall this driver software anyway option and continue. The
device reboots twice as part of the client upgrade process-the first is triggered by
the installer and the second when a user logs in after the first reboot.

Release 7.2.0

Known Issues
Generic Known Issues

Device template creation fails if the Cloud Desktop model number field is used. As a
workaround, create the device template without the model number. After creation,
edit the device template to add the model number.

Remote Desktop Virtualization Host is not supported in server streaming. This is

because it requires Hyper-V which makes changes to the network adapter. Even if
you install the feature on HDD and then capture a VD, VD fails to stream.

Patch existing Delta and Fast Patch are not supported for VHD format Virtual disks.

WSM Server Installer displays an exception message "a reboot is required to

complete the setup" when trying to un-install the WSM server.

If HTTPS is used for communication between Headquarters and remote sites, the
setting must be re-enabled after upgrading Headquarters to WSM 7.2.0. After
upgrading, run the below commands from the script folder of your WSM
installation: "Httpssettings.bat disablehttps"Httpssettings.bat enablehttps <HQ
Server name> <port> <password of wsmkeystore

In a deployment with mixed WSM versions for e.g HQ on WSM 7.2.0 and linked sites
on WSM 6.x, create vdisk (virtual desktop image) with older version until all servers
and sites are upgraded. In this example, you would create vdisk in version 6.

On Windows 2012 and 2012 R2, to uninstall 2008 R2 MS SQL express database
(installed as part of WSM 7.2.0) you may need to manually enable .net 3.x and 2.x for
a successful uninstall of the database.

After upgrading to WSM 7.2.0, if you are not using certificates for secure
communication, AD (Active Directory) Account Operator credentials set on the OS
Authentication service are not retained. You must re-enable the credentials again
using the WSM 7 Service Credentials page found under Settings > Service
Credentials from the WSM Administrator Console. On a non-English WSM server,
the service credentials need to be set manually.
This cannot be set via the "Service credential functionality" UI in the management
portal.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Known Issues

Failure to Capture OS with RAID Mode Enabled on Reference Device -On the
reference device, make sure Hard Disk Controller is set to non-RAID mode (for
example, serial ATA or AHCI) in the BIOS before installing Windows 8 or Windows 8.1
and capturing a Virtual Disk.

Failure to Stream with RAID Mode Enabled on Cl ient - On the client (Dell Cloud
Desktops), make sure Hard Disk Controller is set to non-RAID mode (for example,
disabled, serial ATA, or AHCI) in the BIOS before booting to a Virtual Disk.

Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 VHD is not supported - VHD VD fails to boot.

Troubleshooting
In order to configure Service Credentials, ensure the Service Account is set to Log on
as Service set in the GPO of your domain. More details can be obtained in the link http:/
/support.gfi.com/manuals/en/webmon2011gsg/webmon2011gsg.1.29.html.

Chapter 1

Appl ication Virtual ization

Application virtualization is not supported on mobile disconnected devices.

There is no restriction of mounting 64-bit DIA layer on 32-bit machine and

vice-versa. However, applications may not work on cross platforms. For example, a
64-bit application in a layer mounted on a 32-bit OS will get mounted, but the
application itself will not work when launched.

One user group can be assigned up to a maximum of 7 application layers. However,

each layer can contain any number of applications.

If a user is present in two user groups and there are more than 7 layers in total, none
of the application layers are mounted for this user.

Layer(s) mounts will work only in one device at a time for the same user if logged-in
simultaneously in multiple devices. For example, if user1 logs in to device1 and then
logs in to device2, a message is displayed You are already logged into a virtual
application session on another device. At a time you can use it on one device.
Would you like to disconnect the other device session? Clicking Yes will mount the
applications. A user will be prompted with a similar message if they force restart
(Hard boot) the device.

Application layer creation/capture process must be completed within the current

boot session. Capturing applications that require reboot on installation is not
supported. Most applications that do require reboot will provide an option to reboot
now or later. Selecting later will work for most applications.

After finalizing the application layer creation on a reference device, the shortcuts
are not removed from the taskbar and start menu. This issue can be fixed by creating
the application layers on a WSM delivered OS in Non-Persistent mode (also known
as Volatile mode).

Intermittently the pre-existing shortcuts/icons on a desktop will display a lock

symbol on them when an application layer is mounted and when an application
layer is un-mounted the lock disappears. This does not affect the functioning of any
of applications.

Microsoft Visio application layer finalization is failing when it is created immediately

after creating a Microsoft Office layer. To fix this issue, reboot in between the two
layer creation process.

Cl ient Caching

Client caching with an OS image in persistent desktop mode in a load balanced

(multiple WSM servers) environment requires shared storage across the WSM
servers. This limitation is only with persistent desktop mode and not applicable to
Non-Persistent mode (also known as Volatile mode).

When client caching is enabled, the OS virtual disk size (as shown in the Explorer
properties) incorrectly displays the same size as the client cache partition size
instead of the OS virtual disk size.

Release 7.2.0
