ABSTRACT
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) 4 mg / gram BB given to male mice (Mus
musculus, L) for 15 days can cause a decrease in sperm concentration. This is caused by the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which resulted reduction in the number of testicular Leydig cells that have an impact on the amount of testosterone. The purpose of this study is to know about the effect of vitamin C on the concentration of sperm of male mice that had been given with monosodium glutamate (MSG). Is the influence of ROS or free radicals generated by administration MSG can be resisted by administering vitamin C as an antioxidant. This study uses a true experimental design and Posttest Only Control Group Design. The samples used were male mice (Mus musculus, L) as much as 28 tails were divided into 4 groups. Results of the study were processed with One way Anova test showed statistically significant differences in sperm concentration (P <0.05). Next research should be conducted with higher doses and administration Vitamin C with a different time, the levels of LH, testosterone intratesticular, serum testosterone levels and the number of Leydig cells. Keywords: MSG, Vitamin.C, ROS, Sperm.
