The Objector resides at 1647 South 14 Avenue in the Village of Maywood, Zip Code 60153, County of Cook, State of Illinois, and is a duly qualified, legal, and registered voter at that address. 2. The Objector’s interest in filing this Petition is that of a voter desirous that the Jaws governing the filing of nomination papers for the office of Village President (also known as Mayor) of the Village of Maywood are properly complied with and that only qualified candidates appear on the ballot for said office. OBD |ONS. 3. The Objector makes the following objections to the purported Independent Candidate nomination papers (“Nomination Papers”) of Kathy Travis (“Candidate”) for the office of Village President (also known as Mayor) of the Village of Maywood (“Office”) to be voted for at the Consolidated Election on April 4, 2017 (“Election”). The Objector states that the Nomination Papers are insufficient in fact and law for the following reasons: 4, Pursuant to State Law, nomination papers for the Office to be voted for at the Election for an Independent Candidate must contain the signatures of not less than 5% and no more than 8% of the number of persons who voted at the last regular election in the Village of Maywood in which the Village of Maywood voted as a unit for the election of officers to serve its respective territorial area, [10 ILCS 5/10-3]. 5. According to the Cook County Clerk, 2,469 persons voted in the Maywood Village Trustee election held on April 7, 2015, the last such regular election (Exhibit A). 5% of 2,469 is 123.45 and 8% of 2,469 is 197.52. Therefore, an Independent Candidate for the Office to be voted for at the Election must submit at least 124 signatures of duly qualified, registered, and legal voters to qualify for the ballot.6. Inaddition, said Nomination Papers must truthfully allege the qualifications of the candidate, be gathered and presented in the manner provided for in the Illinois Election Code, and otherwise be executed in the form and manner required by law. a ‘The Candidate turned in Nomination Papers that contain five petition sheets which respectively have 15 signature lines. ‘Therefore, if every line on every sheet was signed, the Nomination Papers would only contain 75 signatures, which is less than the Statutory Minimum of 124 signatures for an Independent Candidate for the Office to be voted for at the Election 8. In fact, the Nomination Papers contain only 55 signatures. Therefore, even if every signature was that of a qualified and duly registered legal voter of the Village of ‘Maywood, signed by such voters in their own proper person with proper addresses, the Nomination Papers would have less than the Statutory Minimum of 124 signatures for an Independent Candidate for the Office to be voted for at the Election. 9. ‘The Candidate’s Nomination Papers are legally and factually insufficient due to the fact that they contain fewer than 124 ~ the statutory minimum required by Illinois law for an Independent Candidate for the Office to be voted for at the Election — validly collected signatures of qualified and duly registered legal voters of the Village of Maywood, signed by such voters in their own proper person with proper addresses.WHEREFORE, the Objector requests: a) a hearing on the objections set forth herein; b) an examination by the aforesaid Electoral Board of the official records relating to voters in the Village of Maywood, County of Cook, State of Illinois, to the extent that such examination is pertinent to any of the matters alleged herein; ¢) a ruling that the Nomination Papers are insufficient in law and fact, and — d) a ruling that the name of KATHY TRAVIS shall not appear and shall not be printed on the ballot for election to the office of Village President/Mayor of the Village of Maywood, County of Cook, State of Illinois, to be voted for at the Consolidated Election to be held on April 4, 2017.
