To make Ss able to describe a city

To make Ss able to identify the synonyms of the words in a text

To make Ss able to identify the main ideas in a text

EVALUATION will be done all along the lesson

ACTIVITY 1: Lead-in-Discussion
AIMS: To introduce Ss into the theme of the lesson
PROCEDURE: T asks Ss what are the cities they have visited so far and what was
remarkable about them. T asks Ss to open the textbooks, look at the pictures of
landmarks and try to guess where they are from. T asks Ss which are the
landmarks they would like to visit and why.
INTERACTION: T-Ss
TIMING: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 2: Reading
AIMS: To have Ss comprehend the text
PROCEDURE: T tells Ss that they are going to talk about London and will start by
reading a text about it. T discusses with Ss a set of text comprehension questions
and asks them to read the text (The Spirit of London). When Ss have read the
text and answered the questions, T checks their answers.
INTERACTION: T-Ss
TIMING: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 3: Vocabulary Practice


AIMS: To make Ss understand the meaning of the words in the text
PROCEDURE: T asks Ss to replace words in a text with their synonyms from The
Spirit of London. Ss do the exercise individually and T checks their answers.
INTERACTION: T-Ss
TIMING: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 4: Speaking, Group-Work


AIMS: To make Ss able to identify the important ideas of a text
PROCEDURE: T tells Ss to get into groups, read the text again and make notes
about the changes which have been made to different places in London (historic
sites, along the river, pubs, Soho). Every group will designate a leader who will
read out the notes at the end of the activity.
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-Ss
TIMING: 15 minutes

ACTIVITY 6: Assigning homework


AIMS: To make Ss able to describe their city as compared to another
PROCEDURE: T asks Ss what can a tourist see in their capital city and writes key
words on the WB. T tells Ss that they will have to compare their city to London as
homework.
