Lab Setup Guide

Organization and summary

The purpose of this lab setup guide is to assist the classroom preparer in setting up the TS623 classroom lab
environment. This guide is separated into the following parts:
"Lab configuration overview" on page 6
This section outlines requirements for the classroom.
"Software setup instructions" on page 14
"Network setup instructions" on page 10
"Verification procedures" on page 16
These sections describe how to manually set up the systems that are needed to conduct the lab
exercises in this course. Total set up time for this class is estimated to be 6 hours.
"Remote lab access" on page 18
If you intend to use IBM remote labs instead of manually setting up an environment, consult this section.
"Instructor and student system checklists" on page 21, which contains checklists for you to use during
setup

Important: The classroom must be ready to run lab exercises before the first day of class. You
might want to create a virtualized environment that you can maintain and reuse. Test the entire
setup thoroughly to avoid problems during class time. If you experience problems and need
assistance, contact the IBM Help Desk:

on TSM1
There is one system for this setup, this can be physical or virtual. A pre-configured
virtual machine image is available for this course.

Figure 1: Illustration of lab setup

Table 1 on page 3 provides a summary of the classroom setup. A system label is a name for each unique
system included in this classroom setup. The name identifies a specific system configuration throughout this
document. If an instructor system has the same system label as a student system, they have identical setup
requirements.
Table 2 on page 4 lists the various IDs that IBM suggests for this class and any requirements that they
have.

Lab Setup Guide

Lab configuration overview

The following section provides information about how to manually create the lab environment that is needed
to conduct the lab exercises in this course.
As the classroom provider, you are responsible for providing the following configuration for this class. The
instructor requires one configuration, and each student in the class requires a separate configuration.
Depending on the course requirements, instructor and student configurations might be identical.
The total number of systems required for a class is the number of instructor systems plus the number of
students multiplied by the number of student systems required for each student.
1+1
=2

Example: For instance, if the instructor requires two systems and each of 12 students requires
one system each, you make the following calculation:
2 instructor systems + (12 students x 1 system each) = 14 systems for the class

Note: The student and instructor machines are set up with all the same software, except that the
instructor machine also needs Power Point viewer. The instructors may also choose to load
additional materials on their own system as they deem necessary.

Network requirements

Network requirements
Configure and test the specific network requirements for this class as shown in Table 5. The words must not
provide indicate that this feature will interfere with student exercises and must not be present in the
classroom. The words not necessary indicate that the course does not require the feature, but it will not
interfere with exercises if it is present in the classroom.
If isolated networks are required, each set of student and instructor systems must be on its own private
network that is not visible to any other set of student systems in the classroom. If a single network is required,
all classroom systems must be connected to the same network.

Preparing the environment
1. Install Microsoft Windows 2008 ServerR2 in accordance with the current Setup Guide for a Windows
2008 R2 stand-alone server. Do not configure Active Directory on TSM1. Active Directory is only required
on TSM2.
2. Create an administrator called labadmin with password Object00.
3. Disable User Account controls. To turn off UAC. follow these steps:
a. Click Start > Control Panel.
b. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
c.

In User Accounts window, click User Accounts to view tasks.

d. In the User Accounts tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off.
e. If UAC is currently configured in Admin Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears.
Click Continue.
f.

Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and then click
OK.

g. Click Restart Now to apply the change right away, or click Restart Later, and then close the User
Accounts tasks window.
4. Ensure the ALL IDs and passwords are set up to NEVER expire.
5. Ensure the Administrator ID labadmin is a member of the Administrators group.
6. Change system name to TSM1.
7. Partition the hard drive or add additional disks in your virtual machine using the following settings:

8. Set the IP address for each system to a unique address and also set the computer name to a unique
name on each system. TSM1 is 192.168.100.50, TSM2 192.168.100.80.
9. Make sure a supported browser is installed.
10. Create C:\scripts directory and copy all scripts to this directory. Scripts can be found in the classroom
setup directory.
11. Create the c:\drm directory and copy the drm instruction files to this directory.
12. Extract the TSM 7.1. client installation files into the directory C:\TSM_Images\Client.
13. Extract the TSM 7.1. server installation files into a directory named C:\TSM_Images\Server.

16. Create a C:\Accounts directory and copy the accounts files from the classroom setup directory to here
for use in the labs.
17. The labs will work with a supported version of either Microsoft Internet Explorer Mozilla Firefox.
18. Ensure each machine has 16 GB RAM during installation. When install is complete you can reduce the
RAM to 7 GB each if you need to run both virtual machines on one host system.

Finalizing the setup

Finalizing the setup

At this point, you can clone the virtual machine and use that image to load the host systems in the classroom.
Steps to take before creating the final image:
1. Clean up the system by clearing history, cookies and files from the browser; empty the recycle bin and
delete any software that should not be on the system or image.
2. Do not remove client code. This must remain on the system for use in lab exercises.
Steps to take on each virtual machine:
3. The scripts provided in the scripts directory will create all of the objects that are required in the image.
Instructions on how and when to run the scripts are provided in the scripts directory.
4. With the virtual machine shut down, reduce the memory on each VM to 7 GB if you plan to run them on a
single host with only 16 GB. Do not try to run these images with less memory, and if possible, run with the
recommended amount of 16 GB.
5. Optionally you can change the number of processors to two for better performance.
6. Ensure students have a starting snapshot.

Values that you must set specifically for your classroom are shown in Table 9 on page 22. Any values that
must match settings from IBM are shown in Column 2. For instance, using a different value than listed might
result in screen captures in the training documents not matching what the student sees on the monitor.

Important:

Be sure to give the instructor a copy of this page with the values that you set.
