The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) was established in Bangalore


and Bhopal by the Government of India in 1960.It became an Autonomous
Society in the year 1978 under the aegis of the Ministry of Power,
Government of India. The Objectives of the Institute is to serve as a
national Laboratory for furthering applied research in electric power
engineering besides functioning as an independent National Testing &
Certification Authority for electrical equipment and aid product
development. The Institute has set up State of Art Research & Test facilities
in the areas of Short Circuit & High Power, High Voltage & Ultra High
Voltage, Insulation, Power Systems, Materials, Transmission line towers &
accessories.
The Institute is 50 years old and is celebrating it's five decades of
dedicated service to the power sector and ranks on par with International
test houses.

The Institute has it's Head Office & major laboratories at Bangalore. The
Institute has ite Units at Bhopal, Hyderabad, Koradi, Noida, Kolkata &
Guwahati.

The laboratories of CPRI have been accredited by National & International


bodies such as:

for

Testing

and

Calibration

of

Laboratories(NABL), ISO-17025
Member of Short Circuit Testing Liaison (STL) of Europe,
Research and Consultancy activities have been certified for ISO-9001.
ASTA (Association for Short Circuit Testing Authorities), UK
CPRI has been recognized as approved test house by various Power
Utilities in Bahrain, Soudi Arabia, Middle East, Far East & Countries of
Africa.
Member in DLMS UG, UCA IUG - for Meter & Utility Automation.

Over the years, CPRI has built up expertise in the areas of transmission and
distribution systems, Short Circuit testing, Insulation materials, power
quality, energy metering, energy auditing, transmission line tower design,
conductor vibration studies, power systems , SCADA & Distribution
