Microcomputer is a complete computer on a smaller scale and is Generally a synonym for the
more common term, personal computer or PC, a computer designed for an individual. A microcomputer
contains a microprocessor (a central processing unit on a microchip), a memory in the form of read-only
memory and random access memory, I / O ports and a bus or system of interconnecting wires, housed in a
unit that is usually called a motherboard.

An embedded systems programming computer, which is embedded in something and doesn't

support direct human interaction but nevertheless meets all the other criteria of a microcomputer

Microcomputer

workstation , as used to mean a more powerful personal computer for special applications

minicomputer , now restyled a "mid-range server"

mainframe or mainframe computer, which is now usually referred to by its manufacturers as a

"large server"

Supercomputer, formerly almost a synonym for "Cray supercomputer" but now meaning a very
large server and sometimes including a system of computers using parallel processing

A parallel processing system is a system of interconnected computers that work on the same
application together, sharing tasks that can be performed concurrently

A mobile operating system (or mobile OS) is an operating system for

smartphones, tablets, personal digital assistants (PDAs), or other mobile devices. While
computers such as typical laptops are mobile, the operating systems usually used on them
are not considered mobile ones, as they were originally designed for desktop computers
that historically did not have or need specific mobile features. This distinction is
becoming blurred in some newer operating systems that are hybrids made for both uses.
So-called mobile operating systems, or even only smartphones running them, now
represent most (web) use (on weekends and averaged for whole weeks). Mobile operating
systems, are now, as of late 2016, the most used kind, with traditional desktop OS, now a
minority use kind. See crossover to mobile more popular. There's however some
variations to popularity by regions, while desktop-minority also applies on some days to
e.g. the US and UK.
Mobile operating systems combine features of a personal computer operating
system with other features useful for mobile or handheld use; usually including, and most
of the following considered essential in modern mobile systems; a touchscreen, cellular,

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Global Positioning System (GPS) mobile navigation, camera, video
camera, speech recognition, voice recorder, music player, near field communication, and
infrared blaster.
Mobile devices with mobile communications abilities (e.g., smartphones) contain
two mobile operating systems the main user-facing software platform is supplemented
by a second low-level proprietary real-time operating system which operates the radio
and other hardware. Research has shown that these low-level systems may contain a
range of security vulnerabilities permitting malicious base stations to gain high levels of
control over the mobile device
