Chapter 2: Feature Changes in Fluent Meshing 17.2

Several features have been improved or added in Fluent Meshing Release 17.2.
The following sections describe such feature changes:
2.1. Changes in Product Behavior from Previous Releases
2.2. Added Features

2.1. Changes in Product Behavior from Previous Releases

Face zones which are not connected to volume mesh (geometry objects or unreferenced zones in case of
mesh object-based workflow) will be transferred as imported surfaces when the volume mesh is transferred
from meshing to solution mode. Also, any unmeshed face zones connected to volume mesh (mesh object
with some regions filled or unreferenced zones), will be disconnected and transferred as imported surfaces
in solution mode.
The display of the cut edges of the model exposed by the clipping plane is now disabled by default. Use
the Show Cut Edges option in the Clipping Planes group in the ribbon to display the cut edges (release
17.0 behavior).
The disabling of the cut plane edges will improve graphics performance when clipping planes are
combined with display bounds for cell zones.
The Select Visible Entities option for box and polygon selection is now disabled by default.
The Remesh and Separate options for the patching tools are now enabled by default. Hence, when the
patching tools are used, by default, the new faces will be remeshed and added to a new face zone.

Note
Reading a mesh file from previous releases will retain the previously saved settings for
these options.

The Delete operation (shortcut Ctrl+W) cannot be performed repeatedly using the Ctrl+right-mousebutton shortcut.

2.2. Added Features

The new features available in the meshing mode in Fluent include enhancements to many existing
features and improved robustness through defect fixes.
Scripting Improvements
New utility functions are available for:
Obtaining zone, object, region and face zone label lists

Diagnostic tools for face connectivity and quality issues
Performance and Feature Enhancements
The following enhancements have been made:
You can now use the mouse scroll-wheel to zoom in/out in the graphics window, by default. This can
be used in combination with the box zoom to examine the mesh.
The wrapping process has been improved, with speedup in operations such as feature imprinting,
remeshing, and fixing of self-intersecting faces.
The tetrahedral meshing process has been improved, resulting in an overall speedup.
Volume meshing for Windows has been improved, resulting in speedup.
Adaptive edge extraction has been improved to avoid disconnected edges after CAD import. This also
results in better remeshing.
Remeshing has been improved to provide correct topology and better feature capture and quality.
