4.2. Walkthrough of School Budget:
4.2.1. School has some discretion to move budget around line items. Not strictly tied to allocations as
noted on the TDSB website
4.2.2. School Office covers consumables, emergency kits, supplies/rewards for clubs
4.2.3. Learning Opportunities Supplement is based on an index for socio-economic and other factors

altered

4.2.6.1.
Covers teachers going to sporting events, or professional development
4.2.6.2.
If teachers are sick, supply teachers don't come out of this budget
4.2.7. We've given $22/23 per student for each classroom to purchase supplies
4.2.8. Team Bussing $1,000 for cross-country
4.2.9. Any funding that doesn't get spent, gets rolled over into future years. We are anticipating ~$5000
rollover into this year

4.3.1. Ladybugs have been ordered and are expected before end of calendar year
4.3.2. Ukeleles have arrived
4.3.3. Laptops for JK/SK classes have arrived, but projectors pending
4.3.4. New Funding Requests:
4.3.4.1.
Bike racks (ranging from $500-$1000 each depending on model). Ideally 1 at front and 1 at
back.
Cliffwood School Council

4.3.4.1.1. QUESTION: Weren't bike racks being offered free for eco-schools?
4.3.4.1.1.1. If we ordered via that process, we wouldn't receive them until Fall 2017, and
would need to meet several requirements, such as ongoing eco-initiatives,
descriptions for how we'll use them, who will use them etc. Eco-school
committee is not currently running this year, as the teacher who previously ran
it left Cliffwood.
4.3.4.2.
Large Bunker ($6,080) to be shared by both JK/SK and upper grades for storage of outdoor
equipment
4.3.4.2.1. Dimensions of proposed bunker: 12'8"x7'x6'10"
4.3.4.2.2. Installation location pending confirmation, but likely at rear of school away from walls
4.3.4.2.3. Only teachers would be allowed into the bunker and would never be left open
unsupervised
4.3.4.2.4. DECISION: Colin Ryckman moves to allocate $6,200 towards purchase of an outdoor
bunker. Tirso Beltran seconds. Motion carried
4.3.4.3.

4.4.4. Intentional attempt to introduce children to new foods and provide foods that represent the
school community
4.4.5. 60% of parents have contributed to the program
4.4.5.1.
Funding is provided by a combination of provincial/municipal agencies and covers ~20% of
costs
4.4.5.2.
QUESTION: If there is a shortfall, where does it get covered?
4.4.5.2.1. The program is very budget-conscious, so if there was a shortfall, it would be clawed
back through smaller portions or reduced frequency of servings. It would never be
covered by the school budget
4.4.5.2.2. Emergency funding is available if there is an unplanned shortfall, but coordinators are
constantly planning and monitoring
4.4.5.3.
QUESTION: Is this intended to be a meal replacement? It feels like a lot of food for students
4.4.5.3.1. Initial focus was on having adequate serving sizes, but the coordinators should be
applying judgement to adjust portion size appropriate to students
4.4.5.4.
QUESTION: Is serving size equal across all classes, or do coordinators have discretion to
scale back portion sizes for younger grades?
4.4.5.4.1. Portion sizes should be adjusted to minimize wastage
4.4.5.5.
