Career

Villanueva started writing plays and childrens literature during the late 1970s and published more than 50
children's books since then. His first Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 1980 for the short
play entitled Kumbersasyon is only one of his several award-winning pieces which placed him at
the Palanca Hall of Fame in 1995.

He was one of the pioneer writers of the Aklat Adarna Series. He was the former executive producer of
Batibot, a popular children's show during the 1980s. He became section editor for Diyaryo Filipino; associate
editor for Diliman Review; editorial consultant for Childrens Communication Center'; original head writer for
Philippine Sesame Street Project; and creative director for Philippine Childrens Television Foundation, Inc..

Villanueva became an assistant professor at the Department of Filipino, College of Arts and
Letters, University of the Philippines, Diliman. In between writing and teaching, he also served as an
associate of the Likhaan: U.P. Intistitute of Creative Writing. He was a member of Galian sa Arte at

Tula (GAT), the U.P. Writers Club, Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL), and The Writers Bloc,
Inc..

Karera Pulitikal

Mula sa taong 1988 hanggang 1992, si Sotto ay naging Bise Mayor sa Quezon City kung saan siya ang
namuno sa konseho ng lungsod. Siya ang nakapagtatag at namuno sa Vice Mayors' League of the
Philippines at naihalal na President Emeritus ng liga. Bilang Bise Mayor, siya ang ginawang pangalawang
pinuno sa National Citizen's Drugwatch Foundation.

Noong 1992, naihalal si Sotto sa senado; pangatlong naihalal sa ganitong posisyon na mula sa angkan ng
mga Sotto. Sa kanilang angkan, si Senador Filemon Sotto ang tinaguriang isa sa pitong mapamaraang tao
sa asembleya ng Pilipinas kung saan siya ay nanungkulan mula sa taong 1916 hanggang 1922; at ang lolo
naman ni Tito Sotto na si Senador Vicente Yap Sotto ng Cebu ang nag-akda sa Press Freedom Law na
nanungkulan mula sa taong 1946 hanggang 1953.

Mula noong 1992 hanggang 1998, nanilbihan si Sotto bilang Assistant Majority Floor Leader at pinuno ng
Senate Committees on Youth and Sports Development; Illegal Drugs; at Rural Development. Kasapi si Tito
Sotto sa Commission on Appointments.

Nakapagpasa at nakapag-isponsor si Tito Sotto ng animnapu't isang panukala sa Senado sa pangsiyam at


pangsampung Kongreso. Kabilang sa mga panukalang naipasa ni Sotto ay ang paggawang siyudad sa may
dalawampu't limang lungsod sa Pilipinas tulad ng Makati, Marikina, Pasig, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, at iba pang
lungsod; panukalang nagtatakda ng nga lugar pangturismo; panukalang sumusulong sa absentee voting na
nagbibigay-daan sa pagpapaboto ng mga Pilipinong nasa ibang bansa. Isa siya sa limang senador na hindi sumangayon sa pag-apruba ng General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). Political career

2001 election
Pimentel ran for Cagayan de Oro City mayor in 2001 but lost.[11]

2007 election
Running in only his second race in the May 14, 2007 senatorial elections, Pimentel was narrowly defeated
by BukidnonCongressman Miguel Zubiri for the 12th and last slot in the Philippine Senate. The narrow margin of
18,372 votes was hotly contested, particularly the votes from the southern Philippine province of Maguindanao,
where Pimentel had lost heavily to Zubiri.[12]

Police career
Lacson worked at the PC Metropolitan Command (Metrocom), Intelligence and Security Group (MISG), from 1971 to
1986. The MISG was commanded by then-Colonel Rolando Abadilla, a feared figure during the Martial Law regime.
Lacson soon rose through the ranks, becoming lieutenant colonel in the mid 1980s. After the 1986 People Power
Revolution, he served at the PC-INP Anti-Carnapping Task Force as its commander from 19861988, as Provincial
Commander of the Province of Isabela from 19881989, and as Commander of the Cebu Metropolitan District
Command (Metrodiscom) from 19891992. In 1991 he joined the then-newly created civilian Philippine National
Police, or PNP, formed as a result of the merger of the military Philippine Constabulary and the civilian Integrated

National Police or INP. (The INP was formed in 1975 as an integration of all local police forces in the country then
under operational control of the PC.) Soon Lacson became Provincial Director of the Province of Laguna from
February to July 1992. Afterwards he was appointed Chief of Task Force Habagat at the Presidential Anti-Crime
Commission from 1992 to 1995. From 1996 to April 1997, he was given the task of project officer of "Special Project
Alpha".

Political career

He was the youngest elected member of the House of Representatives during the 9th Congress as well as the
youngest Senator of the 12th Congressat the age of 37. He also holds an unprecedented record in the congressional
election history of Batangas for winning in all precincts, barangays, and municipalities together with Lipa City in
the 1995 and 1998 elections. Moreover, he garnered 98% of the votes cast in those two elections in the 4th District
of Batangas.
During his three terms (from 1992 to 2001) as Member of the House of Representatives, most of his legislative
measures, which were enacted into law deal with economic reforms and poverty alleviation. His legislative measures
especially those related to taxation have a grave impact on inflation rates. Among which are the Social Reform and
Poverty Alleviation Act; the Philippine Economic Zone Law; Amendment to the Special Economic Zone Law; the
Retail Trade Liberalization Law; Regional Headquarters Law and the Comprehensive Tax Reform Law. However, he
is most famous for authoring the Extended Value Added Tax Law, making him known as "The Father of EVAT" to
many Filipinos.
In the previous Senate, he chaired the Committees on Ways and Means and on Trade and Industry.
He ran again for the Philippine Senate in the 2007 Elections but did not make it to the "magic twelve".
On the afternoon of 15 May 2010, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has proclaimed Recto as one of the
nine senators to be elected in the 2010 Philippine general elections.

Political career
Gatchalian is the first generation of politicians from his family. His other relatives serving in government include
brother Rexlon, who was the representative for the first district of Valenzuela and later the city's mayor, and brother
Weslie, who also held the same Lower House office.
Gatchalian has been a member of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) since joining politics in 2001.[4] From
March to May 2013, he went on a political hiatus from NPC when he became the deputy campaign manager
for United Nationalist Alliance.[5]

Nancy Binay is the eldest daughter of the former Vice President of the Philippines, Jejomar C. Binay [5][6][7][8] and
Dr. Elenita Binay. Nancy Binay is also the older sister of Abigail Binay, the current mayor of Makati, and Jejomar
Binay, Jr.e, former mayor of Makati.[1][5]
Between 1998 and 2001 she performed administrative duties as personal assistant to her mother,[6][8] liaising between
the Mayor's office and other governmental departments and offices as well as with the private sector. From 2010 she
has been functioning as personal assistant to her father,[1][5][6][8] who is the current Vice President. In this role she
liaises between the Office of the Vice President and the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, as
well as with other local government offices. In 2012, she was listed as one of the top 20 potential senatorial
candidates for the UNA.[3]

Political career
In 2001, Villar ran as Representative of the Lone District of Las Pias and won in a landslide victory. She served in
that post until 2010.
When her husband became the Senate President in 2006, she became the president of the Senate Spouses
Foundation, Inc., serving until December 2008.
In 2013, Villar ran as senator under the ticket of his husband's rival in the 2010 presidential elections,
President Benigno Aquino IIIand won, finishing in the 10th place.

Political career
Hontiveros first entered politics as the third nominee of Akbayan Party-list in the 2004 National Elections. She is one
of the prominent figures of the anti-GMA forces, especially during the height of the Hello Garci controversy of 2005.

In the International Women's Day of 2006, she was arrested and brought to Camp Caringal in Quezon City without
warrant despite the peaceful nature of the assembly marking the global event.[10] Hontiveros eventually became
Akbayan's first nominee in the 2007 Midterm Elections. She was a member of the House Minority as well as the
following Committees in the 14th Congress: Appropriations, Ethics and Privileges, Foreign Affairs, Good Government
and Public Accountability, Health, Higher and Technical Education, Human Rights, Natural Resources, Peace,
Reconciliation and Unity, People Participation, Rules, Trade and Industry, Women and Gender Equality.

He was first elected to public office in 2004 as the representative to Congress for the lone district of Aurora, where he
succeeded his aunt, Bellaflor J. Angara-Castillo, a three-term representative and erstwhile governor of Aurora.
Elected at age 31, he was one of the youngest members of the 13th Congress. He was a member of the House
minority and served as House deputy minority leader, thereby becoming an ex officio member of all standing and
special committees of the 13th Congress. He authored a number of laws of national significance and was able to
focus on work in his constituency, where he used the funds allotted to his office to build over 100 classrooms and
provided funds for indigent constituents in 12 government hospitals and hundreds of scholarships to deserving
students at various state universities and colleges (SUCs). He also worked together with socio-civic groups on
various projects and funded the creation of the Gawad Kalinga villages for the homeless in three of Aurora's
municipalities and the provision of computers and Internet access to Aurora's public high schools, together with the
GILAS Foundation, and access to vocational, skills, and livelihood training through the Technical Education and Skills
Development Authority (TESDA) and other groups.Political career

After the 2013 elections, at the start of the 16th Congress, Cayetano was elected as the new Senate Majority Floor
Leader and was likewise appointed to chair the Senate Committee on Rules.
In a press event held in Davao City, Senator Cayetano, announced that he will be running for Vice President in
the 2016 national elections under the Nacionalista Party. Cayetano, did not mention who will be his Presidential

runningmate.[4][5] On November 21, 2015, it was made official that Rodrigo Duterte will be his running mate for the
2016 Presidential Elections. He was placed 3rd in both unofficial and official vote count conducted by COMELEC
andthe Congress, respectively.
