Compliments of
Intro
You may think that estate planning is only for the very wealthy. But whether or
not you have sizable financial assets, its likely you have possessions that have
significant value to you and those you care aboutyour great grandmothers
china, or the pearls that have been handed down in your family from generation
to generation.
members know how youd like your financial and medical affairs to be handled
if you become incapable of making your own decisions. Naturally, estate
planning raises some emotional issues, but ignoring those issues now could
cost you and your family financially and emotionally. Planning your estate could
be one of the most important things you do for yourself and your family.
Use the Personal Financial Diary for more than just writing down your financial information. Collect all your important
documents (i.e., passports or insurance policy paperwork) and place them in the folders located throughout the brochure.
Use the blank pages to express yourself and share nostalgia: write anecdotes or paste in pictures. Tell your favorite story of
the first car you owned in the Personal Assets section, put in a picture of you standing proud next to your home. These are
memories that will help bring a sense of closeness to your family when its time for them to review this document.
Once you have an estate plan in place, it is important to remember that like other plans, you need to periodically review your
documents with your tax or legal advisors. Be sure to amend existing plans if your personal situation changes; such as a new job,
the birth of a child or grandchild, a move to another state, or any other major change in your health or financial situation. Also,
make sure that your executors and guardians are still properly chosen. Consider meeting with your family to talk over your estate
plan and Personal Financial Diary. It not only helps you build your estate plan, but could be a valuable asset to your family if you
cannot make financial decisions on your own.
