Artists Statement Final Alternative Assessment
The three artists I had chose to do my final assessment on were Pablo Picasso,
Leonardo da Vinci, and Vincent van Gogh. These artists have inspired my work in several ways, but all their art really struck me in a special way. I loved the unique characteristics, brush strokes, layers, and different abstract colors these artists have used
throughout their artwork.
The elements of art that I used throughout my composition was a two-dimensional gray pitcher with white carnations in it, placed in front of a green backdrop. I
used texture by painting many layers when it was wet and dry, creating a rough surface
on the canvas. I used values by mixing dark and light color tones together throughout
the piece, as well as different hues. There is a lot of space around and at the bottom of
the pitcher.
If I could change anything to my painting, I would try to make the whole pitcher
smaller itself, as well as using a smaller canvas. I feel that the canvas was just too
large for the composition. I would also choose different colors, for subjects like the
pitcher and the background, and I would rather place the pitcher towards the bottom of
the canvas instead in the middle. I would do this because I feel that because the pitcher
is at the middle of the painting, it is crammed at towards the top of the composition
where the carnations are. These are some of the things I would change throughout my

composition. However, I do like some characteristics of my painting, such as the color

tones and the dots which create the carnations. I feel that this was a unique touch to
the painting.
