Undercarriage
Each track group on the MD6290 is moving on
ten (10) sealed, oil flooded lower rollers, and two
(2) upper rollers, and has 29.5 (750 mm) wide
pads with triple grousers providing good traction
and 32% gradeability while tramming with the
mast down. The rollers are protected by heavy
duty full-length rock guards (chain guides).
Two independent axial piston motors, one per
track, provide up to 204 hp (152 kW) each,
assuring individual control of speed and direction.
Frame
Description: The decks and
walkways are an integral extension
of the mainframe. The main rails,
are heavily cross-braced and
reinforced in high stress areas.
Jack casings, rear drill deck, frontcooler deck and walkways are all
integrally mounted to main frame
Value: Provides additional torsional
strength
Drill Deck
Stationary design
Fewer movable parts/
lower maintenance cost
Provides full access to
cab, rear drilling/work
deck and corresponding
walkways from both
sides of the drill rig with
mast at any angle.
Viewing hatch is built into
the rear deck allowing
operator to spot drill
over-the-hole, while
sitting in the cab.
9
Dust Collection
The under-the-deck-dust chamber with enclosed area
of 4.17 m2 (44.8 ft2)
Largest dust chamber on any comparable drill in the industry
This provides ample room for cuttings flushed from the hole to
deflect and pile without risk of fallback.
Both dry dust collection and water injection systems can be
mounted on the same drill
11
Dust Control
Created by the stationary deck and 0.25 (6.4 mm) thick nylon reinforced rubber dust
curtains, the dust chamber assures high dust collection efficiency and natural dust
containment with ample space for deep hole drilling and resulting cutting pile.
Optional front and rear hydraulically operated dust curtain lifters are also available to
ensure cuttings are not pulled back into the hole while tramming from point to point
on the blast pattern.
12
Dust Control
The optional dry dust collector
complete with access hatch for easy
clean-out, sized for application, comes
in air suction capacity of 4500 cfm
(127m3/min)
Optional Water Injection system is
available as well.
Both systems can be mounted, and
operate, on the same drill.
Replaceable 14 (35.56 cm) diameter
ring and 0.5 (1.27 cm) thick rubber
pipe wiper is located in the dust hood
which is mounted to the mast base
plate and aids the no visible dust
emission operation
13
Compressor-Low Pressure
15
16
Compressor - Filtration
Dry type inlet air cleaner with safety elements, air receiver and oil separator,
and 12 microns absolute filtration system with replaceable oil filter element
are part of the package.
17
Pumps
The in-line mounted engine, through rubber mounted coupler & three-pad pump drive
gearbox, drives the hydraulic system consisting of:
Two (2) variable displacement, pressure compensated, axial piston pumps in a close
loop system (One pump operates the rotation and left track propel functions, while the
second pump operates the right track propel functions).
One (1) variable displacement, pressure compensated, axial piston pump in an open
loop system, that operates pulldown/hoist and auxiliary functions.
One (1) dedicated fan circuit gear pump and one (1) dedicated dust collection system
gear pump (optional)
18
Pump Drive
Description
The pump drive is powered by direct
input from the engine using a rubber
mounted coupling.
Value
100% maintenance free / does not require daily greasing
Provides longer power train life through absorbing shock
Fully enclosed steel housing with hinged access hatch for visual
inspection
20
Coolers
Cooling packages are rated for up
to 125o F (52o C) ambient
temperature.
Cooler / Radiator package consists
of side by side engine radiator,
charge air cooler and hydraulic oil
cooler sections, plus stacked
compressor oil cooler section.
These oversized configurations
give the cooler ample capacity,
assuring unrestricted airflow and
reducing excessive operating heat,
which extends life of engine,
compressor
and
hydraulic
components.
21
Coolers
All MD6290 drills use Mesabi coolers with replaceable cores. Cooling
packages are equipped with fan arrangements configured for respective
power train configurations.
22
Mast
23
Each of the two (2) mast elevating cylinders have 8 (20.32 cm)
diameter bores and 4.0 (10.16 cm) diameter rods. The cylinder
stroke is 42.6 (108.2 cm) and each of them has 125,065 lbs
(56,728 kg) lifting capacity. These cylinders can raise the mast,
with fully loaded carousel, to vertical position. or lower it to a
horizontal position, in less than 40 seconds.
24
Mast Weldment
25
A-frame Arrangement
26
Rotary Head
The top drive rotary head gear box is driven by
one (1), variable displacement axial piston
motor. This 186 hp (138.7 kW) single motor
provides variable rotation speed from 0 to 220
rpm, and torque of up to 9,600 ft-lb (13,015
Nm). This capability allows the operator to
select the most suitable rotation speed for any
given application, and therefore to achieve the
optimal penetration rates for each specific
drilling condition.
27
Pulldown System
The single feed cylinder, located inside the mast structure,
is driven by one (1) variable displacement axial piston
pump in open loop system on demand. It provides
pulldown and hoist forces of up to 50,000 lbs / 22,680 kg
and 47,100 lbs (21,364 kg) respectively, and feed and
hoist rates of up to 141 fpm (42.9 m/min) and 147 fpm
(44.8 m/min) respectively.
28
The carousel-type pipe rack is located outside of the mast structure, and all
functions are controlled from a console in operators cab, which assures
efficient and safe drill string changes and storage. This four (4) pod carousel
is rotated using a chain and hydraulic motor. The swing-in, and swing-out
functions are accomplished by two (2) cylinders. A pipe breakout plate is
located at operators eye level, while pipe retainer plate is mounted at the top
section.
30
31
32
The Hydraulically Operated Break Out wrench is mounted on the carousel pivot
shaft, outside of the mast structure and underneath the carousel. This hands-free
wrench is a three-cylinder system (swing-rotate-clamp) operated from inside the
cab utilizing two fingertip toggle switches.
This highly efficient breakout system increases speed of pipe changing operations,
and consequently increases productivity. Breaking stubborn connections without
high impact loading, creates torsional shock loads on the drill string, carousel,
rotary head or the mast structure, this wrench is the best tool for defeating
stubbornly tight joints. The operator just locks the pipe using the deck-wrench,
then applies the HOBO to force free tool joints.
33
Overhead Winch
An auxiliary (over head) winch rated for up to 8,000 lbs. (3 623kg) capacity,
is offered to assist in handling of drill pipes, bits, subs and other heavy
accessories & equipment. Activation is from a toggle switch in the operators
cab,
or optional pendant winch control which hangs from outside the cab.
