FROZEN MEAT AND FISH PRODUCTS SUPPLIED BY MDA PRODUCTS LTD
(DUE TO LABELLING AND TRACEABILITY CONTRAVENTIONS, AND
POSSIBLE EXTENDED DATE CODES)
Heads of Environmental Health Services and Directors of Trading Standards should
be aware that a number of products of animal origin (predominately frozen fish and
chicken) supplied by MDA Products Ltd have been repackaged in an unapproved
premises. These products are also the subject of a number of labelling and
traceability contraventions. They may have best before or use by dates that have
been extended beyond those set by the manufacturers without authorisation from the
manufacturer. Therefore, they are not compliant with food law requirements and
should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers.
Despite investigations by the enforcement authorities, it has not been possible to
obtain the full distribution details or product traceability record for these products.
Details of known distribution to three retail chains is detailed below.
Risk:
As these products were handled in an unapproved establishment, they may be
potentially unsafe.
Identification of the products:
All products of animal origin packed and supplied by MDA Products Ltd. FY4
3RL (all date and batch codes) are affected by this alert.
Some of the products known to be affected are:

4 Cod Fillets wrapped in crunchy golden breadcrumbs, 480g

Lytham Fish Co. Basa Fillets, 800g

Lytham Fish Co. 100% White Fish Fillet Burgers, 4 pack, 460g

Tasty Chicken Co. Chicken Fillets in Tomato and Herb Marinade 400g

Alaskan Pollock Fillets, wrapped in crunchy golden breadcrumbs, 500g

Lytham Fish Co. 16 Seafood Sticks, 200g

3 Chicken and Spinach Escalopes

Breaded Hake Goujons, 500g

Cod Bites, 500g

Cod Fillets 500g

Panga White Fish Fillets, 1kg

Advice to consumers:
If you have bought any of the above products do not consume them.
Actions (to be) taken by enforcement authorities:
As these are foods of animal origin handled by an unapproved establishment, they
do not comply with the requirements of Regulation EC No 853/2004 and the Food
Safety and Hygiene Regulations (England) 2013.
These products are known to have been supplied by MDA Products Ltd through all
stores of the following retail chains (a list of all stores is available on request):
Frozen Value Ltd. t/a Fultons Foods and Jack Fultons
Factory Foods
Home Bargains
Action to recall the products from sale has already been carried out by Frozen Value
Ltd and Factory Foods and point of sale notices have been issued in stores where
the products were on sale. Copies of the point of sale notices showing which
products are being recalled from each company is in Annex 1. Home Bargains are
also carrying out a recall and have been advised to issue point of sale notices in
stores where the products were on sale. Photographs of some products supplied are
in Annex 2.
It is possible that a number of products may have been sold through other
distribution channels in addition to the retail chains mentioned above.
Local authorities are advised to contact premises in their area who may sell the
affected products to ensure that they are removed from sale, if necessary using
powers under the Food Safety Act 1990 and Regulation 29 of the Food Hygiene
(England) Regulations 2013.
Local Authorities who are contacted by consumers who have bought the affected
products from MDA Products Ltd are asked to advise consumers not to eat the
purchased items.

Local Authorities are also advised to inform the FSA if they find any of these
products on sale, to provide the FSA with details of these businesses. Any affected
products found should be detained. Details should be reported to

Dear Customers,
As a precaution, Factory Foods Ltd are undertaking a formal recall of the products listed below. This is
because we have been notified that the products were not packaged in accordance with legal
requirements and do not comply with Food Safety legislation. The products are not believed to be
harmful.

If you have any of these products in your possession, you should not consume them, but return them to Factory
Foods. There is no cause for customers who have eaten any of these products to be alarmed.
