REFLECTION ON THE ICT MICRO TEACHING WHICH IS FOCUSED ON

LISTENING AND SPEAKING SKILLS (GROUP YOUTH)
According a report of National Institute of Multimedia Education in Japan, ICT impacts
positively on students achievement and exposure, especially in terms of "KnowledgeComprehension"; "Practical skill" and "Presentation skill". To help the class members access
to this method effectively, last week the Group Youth conducted an ICT micro teaching which
focused on the listening and speaking skills with Ms. Hoang Anh as the role of the teacher.
Through the micro teaching, the Group has exploited the advantages of ICT extensively.
Firstly, Ms. Hoang Anh started her lesson with a mini-game called Which color you
choose? as a warm up activity. The purpose of this part is to review vocabulary. Students
were required to read the hints of color on the slide and chose the correct answer among the
four choices. After that, she asked students to work in pairs and do the exercise Matching on
the handout provided at the beginning of the class. After a short period, she corrected the
exercise by asking students and showing the exercise with the answer on the slide. Then, she
came to the part Lets listen. At this stage, she also used the slide to show the whole task
and provide some use useful expression before students doing the task. In this part, students
had time to work by themselves and when the time came, Ms. Hoang Anh asked students to
deal with the second task which was used the same resource. The answers for the first part
would be mentioned when the second task was finished. In the second task, students worked
in pairs to find the correct answers. After that, she numbered the questioned on the board and
chose some students to answer. Finally, she finished her lesson by asking students to do the
rest of the handout as their homework.
Actually, via her micro teaching, we not only have a chance to access to the ICT method
visually but also can learn a lot from both her strengths and weakness in the micro teaching.
Regard to the good points, Ms. Hoang Anh was successful in conducting the satisfied lesson
including all the basic parts as Warm-up, Listening, Practicing and Homework. Besides, the
pace of the lesson was appropriate for the students to follow. Moreover, her loud voice and her
confidence were attracted enough to get our attention. In addition, via the way the group
prepared the handout as well as the slides of all the tasks, we can see that this group and Ms.
Hoang Anh in particularly were very well- prepared and highly responsible for their micro
teaching. Furthermore, she had a very good observation to encourage all class members to
focus on their tasks.

However, there are some weaknesses points in the micro teaching which we would like to
identify and make a suggestion for this group. Firstly, she lacked the objective and description
of the lesson and the learners which are very important for us to evaluate her micro teaching.
Secondly, her instructions for the first task Which color you choose? was not very clear.
Students felt confused when they were called to do the task which was the multiple choice
question. She should have explained that the task was the multiple choice exercise and
students need to base on the hints to choose the correct color. Furthermore, she often used
Vietnamese to check students understanding and gave the translation to the words even
students did not ask. We think that an effective teacher should try to use simple words to
explain to students in English instead of providing the translations immediately and directly.
Moreover, she should set the time for all the tasks in order students can manage their time in
group work, pair work or even in individual work. Consequently, her micro teaching was over
twenty minutes which is the set time for a micro teaching. In addition, she needs to pay
attention to her pronunciation and intonation. Sometimes, she made mistakes in pronunciation
and spelling such as sneakers without s. The student talking time in her micro teaching
was also limited and it was not really focused on the speaking skill as the required topic. Next,
the handout should be numbered on each page so that students easily follow. Last but not
least, the feedback for the first listening task should be provided immediately in order to help
students to learn from their mistake and well prepare for the following tasks. She should also
play the recording one more time after students finished all the tasks as the checking and
confirming stage.
In conclusion, the ICT Micro teaching of Group Youth is quite satisfied with the tasks
requirements. Via the micro teaching, we can learn a lot of things and draw experience from
their strength as well their mistakes. The advantages of ICT in teaching language have been
also proved via the sequences of presentation as well as micro teaching sessions frequently.
Moreover, that all the mistakes we learned from our friends and ourselves reminds me a very
famous talk of Henry Ford- the American businessman that If you do what youre done, you
will get what you have always gotten. In short, just feel free to receive feedback and learn
together!
