Asbestosis

By Jasmine Szikszay

What am I?
-This is Jim. He has a chronic
lung disease that is caused by
breathing in asbestos fibers
aka, asbestosis. Males get my
disease more than women.
-I didnt show up until years
after the exposure to the fibers
from the factory Jim worked in.
-Jim worked in the asbestos
filled factory only 12 years, so
he couldve been worse.

What happens in the lungs?

-Jims connective tissue of the
lungs is completely scarred
because of the asbestos fibers he
breathed in 20+ years ago.
-Since Jim has me, he has a much
higher risk of lung cancer, or
mesothelioma in the lungs, which
is a tumor that is lines the lungs.
-He didnt expect to be paying this
price from years ago!

Cures/Treatments

breathe)

Jims Prognosis
-Jims prognosis could be better. Since the asbestos has been inhaled in the lungs
already, it cant be reversed. The scar tissue found in Jims lungs cant be healed or
taken out. His breathing could get better but usually stays the same. Since Jim
worked in the factory in a period so short compared to some, his lungs arent as bad
as they couldve been and usually are in others. This disease doesnt effect any other
part of the respiratory system.
