Incertaintemporaryoperatingsituations,thevacuumintheinletpipemaybetoolow.Insuchcases,theinlet
pipevacuumcannotbeadequatelyboostedbythesuctionjetpump.Inthesesituations,theelectricvacuum
pumpensuresthatsufficientvacuumisavailable.
Reason:Afteracoldstart,anoperatingsituationoccursinwhichthereisverylittleinletpipevacuumduetoth
e
higherload.Theelectricvacuumpumpisactuatedforacertaintime.Thisensuresthatthebrakeissufficiently
boostedwhenmanoeuvring.
Afteracoldstart,theDMEwillactuatetheelectricvacuumpumponceonlyformax.60seconds.

Acontrolledelectropneumaticexhaustflapisfittedintheexhaustsystem.Theexhaustflapenhancesactive
sounddamping.Theexhaustflapisclosedbyvacuum.
Adjustmentofvariableturbinegeometry
Thevariableturbinegeometrycontrolstheboostpressureviaadjustableguidevanes.Theguidevanesare
actuatedbyvacuum.
Actuationofcontrolleddampingmounts
Inthebasicsetting,thereisnovacuumatthecontrolcomponentodthemount.Thebypassinthemount
losed.Hydraulicfluidflowsbackandforththrougharingchannelbetweentheupperandlowerchambersinth

mount.Themountactslikeaconventionalhydraulicbearing.Themounthasharddamping.
Ifavacuumisappliedtothemount'scontrolcomponent,thebypasswillopen.Thehydraulicfluidthenflows
backandforthbetweenthechambersthroughalargercrosssectionalarea.Themounthassofterdamping.
Exhaustgasrecirculation
Withexhaustgasrecirculation,partoftheexhaustgasistakefrombehindtheexhaustmanifold.Thisisthenfe
dbackintotheenginethroughtheintakeairduct.Theexhaustgasrecirculationpipeislocatedattheinlettoth
eintakemanifold.
Ifavacuumisappliedtotheexhaustgasrecirculationvalve,theexhaustgasrecirculationpipewillopen.The
levelofvacuumisdeterminedbytheopeningintheexhaustgasrecirculationvalve.
Exhaustgasesflowthroughaconnectingpipetotheexhaustmanifoldandintotheintakemanifold.
Drawingoffofblowbygasesfromcrankcase
Thecrankcaseventilationsystemusesvacuumtobleedtheblowbygasesoutoftheengineblock.
Blowbygasesarethesmallportionofthecyinderfillthatpassesbythepistonringsandintothecrankcase
duringcompression.Iftheblowbygasesarenotbledfromtheengineblockthroughthecrankcaseventilation
system,theywillaccumulateinthecrankcase.Theblowbygaseswouldthenapplypressureonthepistons
frombelow.Thiswouldhaveanegativeeffectonthedownwardmovementofthepistonsintheintakestroke
andoperatingstroke.
Blowingoutactivatedcharcoalfilter
Thefueltankventhoseisconnectedtoanactivatedcharcoalfilter.Vapoursfromthefueltankarecollectedin
theactivatedcharcoalfilter.Theactivatedcharcoalfilterisconnectedtotheintakemanifoldbyapipe.Afuel
evaporationcontrolvalveisfittedinthispipe.Whenthefuelevaporationcontrolvalveisopened,thevacuum
in
themanifolddrawsinfreshair.Atthesametime,thefreshairblowsoutthefuelvapourscollectedinthe
activatedcharcoalfilter.
