Chapter 3: Big God, Big Life

Warm Up:
What is your childhood dream job?
Tell us about your biggest/ wildest dream.
Word:
37For with God nothing will be impossible.
Luke 1:37 (NKJV)
Many things may impress us or inspire us in this life, such as sporting
endeavors, scientific achievements, or artistic merit. And every now and
again we witness an achievement way outside the realm of normal human
expectation, and we are led to the edge of wonder. Yes, at times human
endeavor may take us to the edge of wonder. But the worship of Jesus is in a
category of its own. The splendor and story of our God can propel us into a
realm of awe and astonishment like no one and nothing else. When the
worshipper tries to measure the ways and wonders of God, those ways and
wonders are found to be quite simply off the charts. Anyone who truly
encounters Jesus comes away awed and wowed and loved into a big life of
worship.
1. Live Big
We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do
it. (Num. 13:30)
If we live our lives with low expectations in God, we will rob ourselves
of a fulfilled life and massively dilute the honor that is due Him. If
instead we can step into the realm of faith, we will bring pleasure to
the heart of God and enjoy the wonder of adventuring in His purposes.
When God has spoken to us, we can be sure of what we hope for and
certain of what we do not yet see.
Gods strength is far greater than our weakness, and Gods radiance is
able to overpower any dullness inside us.
2. Worship Big
Gods strength at work in their frailty gives us much hope for our own
walks of faith. Most often they were not the top of the class, nor were
they groomed to function at a level higher than everyone else in
society. A long line of biblical heroes points us to the likes of Moses (a
reluctant public speaker), Gideon (a man with a fear-filled heart), David
(an unlikely warrior), and Peter (a guy who was all bark and no
backbone). But each and every one of these worshippers was wowed
by the glory of God and went on to accomplish astounding things in His
power. By including their ordinary beginnings in these biblical
accounts, God reminds us that we can also play a part in His story and
be used by Him more than we ever dreamed or imagined possible.
Studying the power of God at work in these ordinary lives brings a new
and heightened confidence to our own hearts. Anything is possible

ceases to be just a casually used phrase and instead becomes a deep

spiritual truth at work in our everyday lives.
But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me
wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his
descendants will inherit it. (Num. 14:24)
REALTALK: A big view of God will lead us to believe the impossible.
But a big view of God can only be possible if we truly encounter
Him in our lives.
**Take away: We must hold on to hope and never reduce the dream God
placed within us.
