Learning Procedure:

A. Preliminary Activity
Teachers Activity

Students Activity

Good Morning Class!

Good Morning Maam!

(Checking of Attendance)
..Say present...

(Students raise their hands and say present as

the teacher calls in their name )

Everybody stand up...

Class, I want you all to take a deep breath and then
slowly exhale.

(Pupils will stand up)

(Students will inhale and exhale)

1. Drill

2. Review
Ok, As we have learned yesterday, who can answer
(Pupils will raise their right hand and answer)
the process of photosynthesis? Raise your right hand

Very Good!
What are the raw materials needed in photosynthesis
and its by-product?

Photosynthesis is the process by which light

energy is transformed into the chemical energy
of organic food molecules.
The raw materials are water and carbon dioxide
and the by-products are starch, oxygen and
water.

Very Good!
3. Motivation
Ok, class granting that we are in a beach or forest,
what do feel when you breathe? How about when

We Feel the fresh air coming from the sea or

plants.

you exhale?
Very Good!
Teachers Activity
What if you are in a city with lots of cars and
factories? How do you feel when you breath? Or
when you exhale?

Students Activity
We feel the air pollution coming from the cars
and factories.

Very Good!
4. Presentation
What is the importance of oxygen? How about
carbon dioxide? What would happen if all these
were cut down?
Very Good!
As we observed, when we inhale, our body takes in
oxygen from the air. When we exhale, we release
some carbon dioxide to the air.

Oxygen is important to all living things in order

for them to live. While carbon dioxide is
important to plants for the production of oxygen
through the process of photosynthesis. If all of
these were cut down there will be no life at all.
.

B. Developmental Activity
1. Activity
Class, I have here a picture
What can you say about it?

The picture shows a cycle of gases between

plants, animals and human

Very Good!

What gas does a plant give off during

photosynthesis? Where does this gas go?
What gas does the animal inhale? What gas
does it give off?
Very Good!

Plants give off oxygen and it goes to the air

Animals inhale oxygen it gives off carbon
dioxide

2. Analysis
Today, you will group yourselves into two and each
group will assemble the picture that I will be given
to you. Each group will also select one
representative to discuss the interpretation of the
group in front of the class. I will only give each
group 3 minutes, a total of 6 minutes to perform this
activity. The first group is the oxygen cycle while
Teachers Activity

(Students will group into two)

the second group is the carbon dioxide cycle.

Students Activity
Did you get it class?
Yes Maam!
Ok, class are you ready to present?
Yes Maam!
Let us call in the representative of the first group.
The Oxygen Cycle

(First group representative will present their

interpretation of the oxygen cycle for 3 minutes
in front of the class)

The picture shows a diagram illustrating the

oxygen cycle. The plants give off oxygen as
a by-product of photosynthesis. Oxygen in
turn is inhaled by the animals during
respiration.
Is it correct class?
Very Good!
Also, some oxygen is dissolved in water bodies;
they are taken in by aquatic animals. It readily
combines with many substances.
Class, did you understand the presentation of group
one?

Yes Maam!

Now, lets call in the representative of the second

group.

The Carbon Cycle

Yes Maam!

(second group representative will present their

interpretation of the oxygen cycle for 3 minutes
in front of the class)

Class, is it correct?
Very Good!
Teachers Activity
Carbon is trapped in fossil fuels. The use of fossil
fuels results in the release of carbon into the
atmosphere. Carbon may chemically combine with
oxygen producing carbon dioxidea compound. It
is dissolved in bodies of water such as seas and
oceans. The carbon and oxygen cycles continue as
long as they are absorbed and released in the
environment.

The picture shows a diagram illustrating the

Carbon cycle. Factories releases carbon dioxide
through combustion it will go to the air or
atmosphere. The animals respire and give off
carbon dioxide, also the decomposing matter
give off carbon to the atmosphere while plants
take in the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Yes Maam!

Students Activity

Did you understand class?

Just raise your hands if you have more questions?
Ok class?
Yes Maam!

3.
A. Abstraction
All organisms breathe in oxygen in order to live. In
the cells, oxygen combines with the food during
respiration. As a result, energy is released. Carbon
dioxide is the waste product released to the air.
Together with water, it is again manufactured into
food. During the process, oxygen is given off and
the cycle goes on.
Green plants take in carbon dioxide and give off
Oxygen while animals take in oxygen and give off
carbon dioxide. This cycle is repeated without end.
It is called the oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle.
Did you understand class?
Oxygen is a gas released as a by-product of

Yes Maam!

photosynthesis. It is cycled in the environment.

Carbon dioxide is released in respiration. Carbon is
released when decomposition occurs; oxygen is
released by plants it is taken in by animals. Carbon
dioxide is taken in by plants for photosynthesis.

Yes Maam!

B. Generalization

Based on your activity, describe how oxygen-carbon

dioxide cycle happens?

Very Good!

Green plants take in carbon dioxide and give off

Oxygen while animals take in oxygen and give
off carbon dioxide. This cycle is repeated
without end. It is called the oxygen-carbon
dioxide cycle

Teachers Activity
4. Application
Now, using the diagram that you have just
interpreted as model. I want you all to illustrate the
diagram of oxygen-carbon cycle with your own
ideas.

Students Activity

Group 1- Assemble and illustrate the diagram of

carbon cycle.
Atmospheric carbon dioxide
Respiration
(Animals)
Decay
Photosynthesis
(Plants)
Combustion
(Factories, chimneys)

(Students will construct a diagram of carbon

cycle using following

Carbon dioxide is one of the gases that causes

warming of the atmosphere it is called the
greenhouse effect. And marine algae takes up
enormous amounts of carbon dioxide and it is one
way to reduce the greenhouse effect.
Group two, I want you to construct your own
oxygen cycle using the following organisms:
rice plant
lotus
bird
pond

man
grass
lake
water lily

Question: what do you think will happen to the

amount of oxygen present in the bodies of water if
they will be polluted?
Very Good!
Class, did you understand?

Rice plant
Grass

bird

man

pond
lake

lotus

water lily

No more oxygen will produce and animals and

plants will die

Yes Maam!
